Just watched the first half of the final of the 2007 International All-pile-on World championship. It's been bulled up all week by the chinless twats at the BBC and everywhere else. What a load of wank this game is. Can't believe there is a more overrated sport in the whole world. Time for Casualty methinks.

Here in Japan, I'd say baseball. But football is quite popular amongst the youth here. Baseball is like a middle aged person's (or older) sport here these days. The same goes for sumo, although with a much older fanbase.

Football and basketball are obviously the top two most popular sports in the world. I don't know what is number 3, but it is either boxing, golf, tennis, and race car driving (is this really a sport?). A lot of the stars here are overpayed.

We cannot say the same about the kind of rugby they have with forwards and armours. They call it football over there I think. And the same about the game that looks like your cricket.

Actually, most sports are good as long as you follow them. Most of the complaints here are likely sports people never really tried watching and following.
I'm sure soccer and basketball are great if you follow them, but I just don't care for sports that have too many points made infive minutes (basketball) or sports that you watch for 3 hours and see only one point.....

From recent corruption stories they can't even manage wrongdoing properly as any serious action they take against a team will effectively end the "sport" for good. So they just slap a twelve grand fine on the culprits and pretend nothing ever happened. Twelve grand or whatever is a lunch bill for these people so why bother?
My second vote would go to Golf - if there was ever a sport needing dragged into the twentieth century let alone the twenty first...

As an F1 fan, i have no problem whatsoever with the idea that those that have no interest and have probably never been to a race find it 'boring'. I find Cricket boring. But I fail to grasp why so many people say it 'isnt a sport' How is it any less so that any other form of racing, be it cycling, athletics, swimming?

F1 drivers are, and always have been, WAY fitter than footballers or ruggerbuggers. Hence James Hunt beating them all when drunk on BBC superstars.

Was going to try and pretend to like football, so as not to appear completely out of touch, but I can't do it. It is the one sport I could just about imagine watching, if I were forced to. I mean, there's some sort of strategy thing going on, and teamwork and all that and the activity is more-or-less continuous, unlike cricket or US football.
But F1? Just cars driving round and round, might as well go and stand on a motorway bridge. And does anyone ever overtake anyone or is it just a procession? And isn't it all hedged around with such complex rules about what technology is allowed that its all completely arbitrary who wins anyway? They don't even crash spectacularly very often these days.
Or athletics - people running up and down, and often you can't even tell who's won till a machine tells you. Who cares who can run 1/100th of second faster than the next guy? Its just a battle of pharmaceutical companies anyway.

The Daily mail had a story about drug addicts being given 'free golf lessons' and all the daily mail readers were outraged about their being 'rewarded'. Cruel and unusual punishment I say. Presumably if they reoffend they'll be forced to wear golfing clothes as well, that'll teach 'em.
All this applies to watching, actually taking part yourself I can understand (except for golf).

Driving round? like a motorway? cars on motorways are not on the very edge of flying off into the wall constantly. Cars on motorways do not pull 4.5G LATERALLY. Nor can they do 0-100-0mph in 5 seconds. The current overtaking situation is not great, cars are so reliant on aerodynamics (as I saw it put once, the driver does less to keep the car on the road than the air disturbed by it's passage) that they cannot follow too closely in corners due to turbulence from the diffuser on the leading car wrecking the airflow over the following car's front wing and underfloor. Apart from that, and it is soon to be corrected, there is a myth that there was once this marvelous era of overtaking, it's shite, most of these time periods were full of guys winning by LAPS!
I do not even hold a driving license (though I can drive), but I can tell you that you know less of what goes on in an F1 car than I. Go karting sometime, not really pussy indoor-shiny-floor-20mph-point-squirt-stop shit, just anything outdoors on tarmac that'll do 40 or so on the straights. Do 20 laps (about maybe 5KM given the average kart track) trying to go faster on each lap (or better still, trying to get past someone, feel the red mist for yourself). Now imagine the car is 5 times faster, with even more grip to hurl you into corners. Now imagine it's 300KM. Add in having 21 other guys round you, add in stopping inside a box made of humans from 60mph, to within 1cm accuracy. I could go on, but it comes down to learning what is REALLY happening, gaining an appreciation of all factors.
It is NOT "driving round"
An overtaking manouvre in F1 should be seen as the equivalent of a goal in the world cup. Nobody complains if 22 footballers manage only 3 between them, but a GP with "only" 10 overtakings gets panned as "dull".
As for technology...well that's a hot topic. The teams say F1 drives road car tech, and that F1 is the pinacle so every cool and clever gizmo should be legal. The first point is bollox, apart from maybe developements in gearboxes and tyres, and some advances in pure research. I mean seriously....how many road cars have a carbon fibre monocoque chassis? Better than that....the traction control[1] software on the BMW F1 engine, is copied from the M5 road car!!!
The "motorsport drives technology you get in road cars" argument is totally valid and true. It's just that it's the World Rally Championship where it really happens. Every motherfucking thing under the sun, barring a couple of odd exceptions usually written into the rules following some horrific deathtoll/cheating, the whole lot is legal. Want a software handbrake you can re-configure while doing 100mph, to be your gear shift? FINE, work away 
I think F1 should be as advanced as possible, but without driver aids like traction control, gearshift preselectors, launch control, all that crap, and more mechanical and less aerodynamic grip. BUT I'd love to see a "formula mad fuck" where everything goes, basically a whole field full of updated versions of the 1992 Williams. Movable wings that fold flat on straights, superwide slicks like flypaper, active, computer controlled fucking everything and 2000 horsepower.

I think the term 'sport' is very broad, and things that are more about skill are considered sports....maybe another word that could define these things....as I have every respect in the world for F1 drivers and the racing (I love cars) but 'sport' just doesn't seem like the proper word...
F1 - it sucks Golf - it spoils a nice walk Athletics - if it was popular then they would be able to afford to build and run a stadium of their own instead of having to sponge off football & the taxpayer

A heard it in ESPN (yes, an American cable network) a number of times already when they referred basketball as the second most popular sport or the most popular indoor sport in the world. Basketball is now a global sport, and compared to other popular sports (except for football), cricket is only popular in Commonwealth of Nation member-states, baseball is only popular in the American continent and East Asia, and golf, tennis, and F1 racing is only popular to rich people and rich countries.
