Another blinding performance. We got No Love Lost and Someone Great this time. Both absent from the previous Manc date.
Alex from Hot Chip has settled into the band well and they've added a touch of showmanship to proceedings.
If there's a better band in the world I'd be staggered to witness them.

And if there's a better 'singer' out there than James Murphy I'd love to hear them. He doesn't come across brilliantly on record, but fcuk me he can bang out a tune on stage and hold it well.
Surprised I didn't spot you there. Quite a few from here out incl Nick King, Missy Jem, Liam, ATR, etc. Fradders was there as well but I never ran into him.
Have just seen them twice in Dublin too. They do seem to blow hot and cold on different songs on different nights though. Thought Get Innocuous was the hilite last night whereas Tribulations sounded overblown and the key riff to No Love Lost was muddied so didn't give the song the oomph it should have. Lot of that was probably down to the acoustics at the venue though - I appreciate it's being rebuilt but the Academy's just a bit shit at the moment, isn't it?
Went from there to Sankey's Soap after to see Sunshine Underground after but didn't think they were all that so walked out after two songs! McManaman was in there though.

Manchester Academy is, and always has been, a shit venue. It's the right size but everything from the bar to the sound has always been dodgy. It takes a really good band to make the place work and last night - along with the Beastie Boys many moons ago - are the only times I've seen that happen.
The Ritz, on the other hand, never lets you down....

Whereabouts did you stand? We were by the souvenir stall. Went in KroBar 1st. It's murder getting served in The Academy.

Small world. We were in the KroBar first. Had a table out the back, although I was only there for one cos we got there late and Alex wanted to drink in the Student Union instead cos it's cheaper!!! You can't get in as a rule but Slim, New Order's ex-roadie, was on the door so let us all in!
They played a much better venue in Dublin though. New gaff, nicely done out like a proper venue should be. Only 1300 cap though, which meant it was absolutely rammed.

I probably would've only recognised you and Alex. Did bump into someone else I've only met once before, who I know from the interweb. Probably would have freaked me out a bit to make 2 in one night.
Yeah, fantastic gig, despite the Academy's acoustic problems - gutted I can't make Brixton on Tuesday...

Anyone got a spare Brixton ticket? I've had Sound of Silver on rotation for months, but somehow didn't even know they were playing in the UK 
I thought they were outstanding. It's the first time I've seen them live and I was very impressed, they're now officially my favourite band
I took some pictures but they were bobbins, the only ones that turned out alright were of us all in the pub beforehand. I'll post them later.
My friend and I agreed, if we see them again we will definitely not be sober!

Thank fuck the Gooners were playing tonight so the Vicky Line was kept open to allow us to play out late!!! (And see most of the gig!!)
Usual qualidee night and good to have RichShan commander a few of us us outside the Beehive after-hours to make sure it was a proper late night again!!!
Same set as past coupla gigs but that's not a negative point. Acoustics weren't great though as most of us stuck to the back bar, for the obvious reason.
And can I be the first to congratulate the first NOOLer to ever buy his 'round' in pills. You're lucky to get a pint out of most of this lot, so that's upping the stakes just a bit for the next convention!!

I've listened to a few of their albums and can make neither heads nor tails of how such a middling band has become so celebrated. Then again, Britons tend to suckle at their music press far too much.

Don't read the music press - haven't a clue who's hot and who's not - just like LCD Soundsystem (saw them at Barcelona Summercase earlier on this year - first time I'd heard of them or their music)...

Brilliant gig last night. They played out of their skins. Pity about sound not being great... myself I don't see howw you can stay still to them. Brilliant, insistent infectious dance music.

Glowing Brixtaaan review in the Independent today ... although it don't seem to have made it to their website yet.
Said the majority of the crowd were Murphy's peers who were probably around for dance muzak's peak. About right, I guess?
