Am watching.

I'm bemused by the general acceptance of the origin of punk being Bromley in Kent. As in, my home town. Tony Wilson said it on the BBC4 documentary too.

Weird.

Haven't seen the programme but there are plenty of punk connections with the Beckenham and Bromley area...

I'm only saying that to gain kudos having grown up in Bexley and trying desperately to hide the fact that Mick Jagger is the closest influence... Oh the shame !

Yeah but its fucking weird. You know the area. Its hardly a hotbed of anti-disestablishment. More a conservative suburbia of rich kids. David Bowie was from here too. Ermm.. and Kate Bush. The punk thing seems to spring from Siouxsie, who has said she will never return here, even just passing through.

Is that it not it though? Thousands of talented artists, musicians, footballers for example have come through poor, improverished areas in order to better themseleves and yet the surburban feeling of guilt, discontentment and youthful angst can produce the same passion... David Bowie, Billy Idol, Fat Bob, Adam Ant, David Sylvian et al

Kate Bush opened her front door and said 'hello' when I was a kid hurredly posting a Servowarm leaflet through her post box in Eltham... Happy days !
