HIYA FOLKS!! Just got back today. Wanted to thank everyone for their kind posts and also your lovely pressies.Me and Mrs Monty had a great time.We set off on Sunday to drive down and stop over at Gatwick, and flew out on Monday to SAL ISLAND,CAPE VERDE ISLANDS. Only found out when we got there that an airline is now flying there from Manchester! It's off the coast of Senegal. It looks a desert when you land...well it should do,they haven't had rain in 15 years!! And when you get to Santa Maria, you expect some fucking tumbleweed to blow through to the sounds of Morricone. But the hotel was fantastic, and so was the beach.People were great apart from the 7 a day who hassled you with the same sales pitch to get you back to their market to part you from your Euros. Typical patter "Where you from? England? My brother lives there, whereabouts? Manchester. Whey Manchester United! My name is (insert typical English name here),here's a gift to celebrate the birth of my daughter,I have more come back to my shop. You buy something, and my brother he go buy a cow for party and kill cow on the beach.." Or variations of a theme, sometimes they were from Liverpool. One day we were discussing which English name they will be using today....and we were stopped by.......DEL-BOY!! Mange Tout,I said to him and he sort of shrugged. Despite the town looking a little unfinished,we still found somewhere new to eat every night.Food was ace, though you have to hunt for meat,if you don't like fish.None of your Cod and Chips..I had WAHOO fillet!!! There was a big fuck-off fishtank at our hoel restaurant. It was empty of any ornaments or stones apart from 4 fish who looked bored shitless. Then a few days later,we discovered it wasn't there for decoration.....they got deliveries of fish dropped of in wheelbarrows, and one day dumped 30 yes 30 LOBSTERS in there on top of each other. I think I know now why you never see surfers with hairy chests.....because it drags your bleeding skin off! Had a go in Newquay and I was on my feet for all of 10 seconds, but my chest was bruised to buggery. So I was determined to have another go.IMMAC anyone? To break the routine we went on the NEPTUNUS,this Portuguese owned "Yellow Submarine",well it doesn't dive, but next best thing,it's got a gantry below deck with glass sides where you can look at a couple shipwrecks, and shoals of fish hanging around them. And went on a convoy of 6 Land Rovers up and down the island,to visit the capital, the Blue Eye Lagoon, and a Salt Lake. You can actually float on top of the water,I had my arms folded behind my head. Couple of years time when there's more places built,It'll be the dogs bollocks, but it was like watching an underdog. They make a little go a long way. The local tipple was PONCHE a bit like a sherry, only stronger. I went up and asked for a Poncho one night. The cunts gave me a rain-mac! Only thing that marred the trip, was 1st Sunday we were both ill,and stepped out of the room once for an hour at night for an omlette. And I've had the Earthas for over a week.
Yours Sincerely, Judith Chalmers xxx
