I just wagered $2 on win and place each.

I went to the Melbourne Cup in 1999 and its amazing. The entire country stops whatever they were doing to go to the tab and place bets and then they scream at their horse to win and get excited. It was the only time I really ever wore a hat and I have to say I quite liked the Aussie pomp and ceremony of Melbourne Cup. I'd definitely go again its a race you best enjoy backing a winner or actually being there.
