"Greatest Album Ever" according to "Mac"

Awritey peoples, any of the regulars goni venture out to this one? The Bunnymen have announced that they are to return to play the Royal Albert Hall on the 16th Sept 08, to perform the Greatest album ever made, according to "Ian Mac" ie Ocean Rain, (a bit of a classic if I must say). Apparently they are going to be perfoming with a full Orchestra. Ocean Rain was probably the Bunnymen at their peak

It won't be the same without Pete RIP and Les, however good a bassist Ste Brannan is. The 83 gig at the Albert Hall was one of their finest hours, even down to the encore of Heroin!

They were amazing at the last VERSUS CANCER gig.

great album , though macs voice is a bit ropey these days,, worth a watch though.

I got into them when they supported New Order at Move 2002. They're one of my favourite bands now.

Have a guess people.. Went to see em at the Cavern (yes - the Cavern in L'pool) last month, and in 2 weeks time im off again to Liverpool to see them for their annual X-mas gig at Academy. Yes i know they aint what they were but to me there like N.O. - you still go for the buzz.

Dont know if RAH gig will beat the Crystal Days' gigs from 84' though

great, great album, though the lyric "If my heart is a war its soldiers are bleeding, if my heart is a war its soldiers are dead" makes me wince everytime I hear it (awesome singing though Mac... )

I mean, why on earth are the Bunnymen announcing gigs a good 10months in advance?

Assume the date ties in with the anniversary of a release, or summat?

(Bit big for them these days though, isn't it? The RAH?)

24 years since the release of Ocean Rain. Presumably they think they ain't gonna get to a 25th anniversary of that release?

I've lost count of the times I've seen the Bunnymen live in Glasgow, even travelled to the den of iniquity that is London too see them in Hammersmith. Which is where I first heard "Porcupine" (the track itself, plus other stuff from the, as yet [then] unreleased album) and it blew me away.

They used to be totally fucking brilliant live, passion, power, politics.

So I was in a Virgin store the other week and spotted the double CD "Never Stop: Live In Liverpool", naturally I shelled out a ten spot for said item thinking it'd recapture the glory days. Did it fuck! It's total and utter mince, unlistenable sounds like the kind of crap cover version you'd hear in Woolworths, or other shopping emporia. Like Kajagoogoo covers of the Bunnymen. Mac sounds flat and empty, as if he's singing by rote for cash, Bloody awful. What a let down.
As I've no wish to further despoil beautiful memories I'll be giving any Bunnymen shows/tours a wide berth.

You've probably heard them without knowing it was them.

They were on the soundtrack of the vampire flick "The Lost Boys" covering the doors "People Are Strange" and I think their biggest hit in the States was "Killing Moon" which was used on the soundtrack of "Donnie Darko".

But please don't blame the bunnymen for being used in such tosh.
