What can you do when you're about to play the first move in a first game of Scrabulous with an ex-girlfriend who has contacted you for the first time in 15 years, and you get these letters first up?

Serious question: does anyone who actually plays Scrabulous on Facebook actually play it properly?
I mean, there's a zillion apps out there on t'net which can make your word for you, so why bother? Who's to say your opposition ain't cheating anyways?
15 years??
YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME FOR A FRIGGIN' GAME!
What if it takes here 5 minutes to decide for every word? Now go down to business...
Indeed*!*
oldmonkey wrote: Well I play it properly. No point in playing otherwise. Can't see the point in cheating.
I couldn't see the point in not cheating.
It's not like you know what your opponent's up to - you're just playing blind. ![]()

I know you're used to just banging women over the head with a club and dragging them back to your mud hut over there (not that there are any women left over there.....), but you might like to consider that a) I'm married to someone else and have no intention of even meeting up with this person again, let alone "down to business" b) she's married to someone else and has no intention of meeting up with me again! Indeed.

Doesn't worry me. I don't cheat at things, never feel the need to. If someone wants to, good luck to them, what does it actually gain them though? It's a brain game on a computer, not something for money.

Surely you're playing Scrabulous on Facebook for one-upmanship?
Else why play against someone else?
It's surely not really a brain game? You'd exercise your brain more just reading a newspaper?
Again, another app on Facebook that's just passed me by, I guess (but then Facebook's banned at work, else I'd probably be taking on all-comers too!)
Not me, one-upmanship isn't an issue. I know what I'm about, don't feel any need to prove anything to anybody, least of all myself. The challenge for me is to get the best word out of what I have available, given the complications or assistance from the opponent. I don't come up with all this tactical shit like Burt. Doesn't worry me if I lose, I've lost half the games I've played so far, I play it for fun and fun only. I do also play one player games, and the sudoku challenge on there, where I am playing against the clock as my challenge.

You need a job, Tim. Sounds like you've got far too much time on yer hands! ![]()

I know, I thought I had him beat on Saturday night, was 35 points up with one tile left myself, and he came up with a 7 letter word worth 68 points to steal the game! Batsrad!

Nope, death and gore in Sarf Landan. There's a serial on the loose who doesn't like Aussies or the elderly.

That could be tricky one for the police, they must have a couple of million suspects....
White. English. Male.
By the way, I woulda used the blank as an R and spelt Virgin. Never was much cop at Countdown.

I had that ready for a while. Just trying to find a place to stick it, hence the two letter lays for a couple of goes beforehand.
As for cheats, they are easy to spot cos they come up with ridiculous words. I called cheat on someone recently (who shall remain nameless), because they came up with the sequence of words TUQUE, FEH, STRIPT, MHOS, CODEN. As Tim says, whats the point?
The key to it all is knowing all the two letter words, cos they can score big time, like XU, ZA, QI etc, fuck knows what they mean but they do score heavily.
dunno if anything's changed since they updated the game recently, but I used to trust the fact that if a word was invalid, it wouldn't let you post the word. Chris (rightfully so, I must add) just challenged me for using the word "squabteen" in a game yesterday, dunno how that one got through ![]()
I was just glad that I was going to get to use the word "squab" for a high-scoring word ![]()
A V G N I A blank
VAGINA
If blank is R:
VIRGIN VIAGRA (well, it is not counted being a proper noun)
Indeed*!*
Allan - I try to play fair and I appreciate that you do to...
Burt - I challenge you to a Spanish game when they finally release one - we're NOT doing French again (eek, that sounds so wrong!) Who plays a French scrabble game using mainly Arabic and Chinese words? Oh yeah...

I thought it was just Americans who didn't get irony?
![]()
Time for this one again...
Jay Fullmer, 38, yesterday became the first American to get
to grips with the concept of irony. "It was weird," Fullmer
said. "I was in London and like, talking to this guy and it
was raining and he pulled a face and said, Great weather eh?' and I thought - Wait a minute... no way is it great
weather.'" Fullmer then realised that the other man's
`mistake' was in fact deliberate.
Fullmer, who is 39 next month and married with two children, aged 8 and 3, plans to use irony himself in future. "I'm like using it all the time," he said. "Last weekend I was grilling steaks and I burned them and I said `Hey, great weather!'"

Never in yer life are any of them proper words ![]()
I was so upset that:
a: I had nowhere to place the word
b: it would have done me bugger-all good anyway

to everyone that suggested vagina, you are all idiots.
there's a blank
vaginas gets you a 50 point bonus.

For some reason, when I tried to click on "Play Word" it just... didn't do a damn thing.
Not sure on what the fcuk happened either.
It's because so many people are using it, I find if I refresh it usually works - 'hit and hope!'
Burt, Gaz - the game won't actually let you cheat. On a 'Regular' game, the words are either in the Scrab dictionary or they're not. If they're not, it won't let you play them. If it's a 'Challenge' game, it's up to you to challenge any word you think doesn't exist...
And I seem to remember someone playing Chinese and Arabic words in a FRENCH game...

Well I guess that makes me the class dunce then, I'd better get doing my homework. In my defence, I am only just finding out how the games work, tile colours, rules, etc.

he's beaten me twice in row.
Revenge will be meted out tonight.
Burt's trounced me twice, I believe that I've split the number of games with Chris and Jonathan. Haven't tried my luck with Gazza though.....
BTW, the last game with Chris has finally finished loading, looks like he'll take that one.

if you consider a margin of 6-2 in my favor a split ,than you're right.

Hmmm, odd that, J., just checked my stats and they show you with a 3-2 lead. Of course, we haven't played each other in awhile either.
