Wedding Present were alright until about 1992, then it all went tits up. Nowadays it's an embarrasisng parody.

Is that with or without Alan Wilder, because with Alan, they were awesome live. Post-95, Dave's voice became shot and he couldn't hit the high notes (although he sounded good in NYC a month ago), Martin doesn't touch the keys, Fletch actually plays, and the two major parts of the sound -- lead keys and drums -- are by touring musicians. Oh, and they don't use a drum machine.

'82 to '95 -- David Gahan sang awesome live because he wasn't totally strung out on smack (except for on SOFAD), Martin didn't touch the guitar as much, except for on SOFAD, Fletch didn't play, and Alan did most of the instrumentation, even improvising some cool live bits, like the transition from Behind the Wheel to Route 66 on the World Violation tour and the ending to Just Can't Get Enough on the Live in Hamburg tape. Oh, and they had the four track tape player on stage with them.

Actually I'd put you lot and Digital in the other thread, both INFINITELY better live than recorded, though I think that's true of every band.

PS: If you have any multitrack stuff I'd LOVE to try mixing yous, especially if the MIDI is separate (I have "issues" with both tribute bands patch programming, not least using way too much resonance on the bass noises). Same goes if Timbo has any Digital leftovers.

[1] Having briefly played a 4 string fretless modulator, I suspect a Marathon 6 would hit slightly harder than an express train.

It's impossible to get enough of Alan Wilder. Even if you've gone through Depeche, there's always Recoil, which is a lot more complex and each time you listen to it, you hear something different.

Yes, the Barry Adamson (Magazine/sometime Bad Seed) who along with Hook and Washington (Wah!) was/is one of the best bassists of our generation.

Well I haven't seen them since the Mellon Collie tour, so they might be better than before?

Corigan thinks his voice is better than it is. They play completely different versions of their songs... to the point that you don't recognize them... they can't seem to play their instruments together (probably because none of them know the version of the song their playing)... just alot of noise and screaming.... SP was my 2nd favorite band at the time, but after watching that performance they dropped seriously on my list....
