Same story every year with albums, books, movies, parties, boozers and concerts..so let's hear it

What was the best concert u saw in 2007 and where was it and why?

mine...

1.DJ Jeff Mills @ Clash, Oosterpoort Groningen holland, 1st of december 2007...(not really a concert i know) - In my hometown one of the pioneers of techno doing a amazing three-hour 909 technotrip...blew me off me socks! 2. Editors - Lowlands Festival, august 2007 - Racing Rats is just amazing to hear live 3. Interpol - Tilburg, Holland november 2007 - Paul Banks is a cool guy and that bass-dude reminds me of Hooky 4. Chemical Brothers @ Heineken Music Hall Amsterdam - looking at these two computernerds is boring but theitr music live is soooo f**ing powerfull! 5. Jo o'Meara @ chicago's Chelmsford -pisspoor place when ur on the pull and her music was even more shite but she looked stunning and smiled @ me :rofl:

Coming up: Underworld in January - after their cancelled tour they are back on the road again, really looking forward to this one!

ReOrder in Corby was a great gig. Excellent support too.

Alabama 3 at the Lemon Tree (RIP) in Aberdeen. Again, fantastic support band Republic of Looose.

I really enjoyed Magic Numbers at Belladrum, but I was completely out of my brains so can't be sure whether it was any good at all.

The Cure in Melbourne, August 12th.

Stood 5 metres from Robert Smith and had a grand old time "hangin out" with 4'6" gothic teenage girls (they didn't really like standing behind my 6'2" body) with 3 hours of the Cure going in my ears.

Good times to be had.

Been to a few gigs this year, but the best were both Re: Order... :laugh: Corby, despite being 100% sober all night and surrounded by a possee of drunk Vikings... And St Albans for the Re: Order 'Ri: Ot'... And, as Shug says, hopefully tomorrow... :beer: :viking:

Happy Mondays at the Ritz was good as well. I forgot about that one.

The audience made that one really special; collectively transported back to a time when we were all thinner, fitter, had more hair and didn't give a fuck about anything. Well I was, anyway!

Eh? Visually, they just can't be bettered! They're nothing to look at admittedly - just two blokes behind a bank of gadgets - but the lightshow and graphics are like nothing anyone else has done since Kraftwerk!!

Back on subject: LCD Soundsystem pick of the bunch this year, followed by the Chems. Re-order and Digital get honourable mentions, natch. Underworld were better than I expected and I thought Lily Allen was comedy moment of the year in Barca. Nice to see an artiste with a sense of humour.

I end up not remembering most of the shows I go to...

can't handle my beers....

I'm still not entirely convinced that I went to a New order show in Wolverhampton...

oh well...

erm...best gig I did this year...

Micky and the Motorcars in good old Beaumont, TX...

hot sticky night...outdoors...but the beers were only a buck a piece (that's around 7p for the English)....granted, they were Buds...but after 5 or 6, they all taste the same anyways...

Actually only seen one gig this year, The Musical Version of WOTW, at the Odessy in Belfast, great gig, awesome performance, accoustics like a railway station toilet.

I've probably forgotten half the gigs I've been to this year although I'm pretty sure I've seen Morrissey, Monaco & The Chemicals a couple of times each, LCD, Underworld, UNKLE and Crowded House. Re: order tomorrow of course.

Monaco get an honourable mention for obvious reasons, nice to see them back even if it was only for a short couple of gigs. Sunrise from the Ritz stuck in my head pretty well.

The Chemicals were a definite highlight and has already been said put on a stunning visual show which completely detracts from the fact they're just two blokes behind a lorry load of electronics. Nice if you can pull it off and they definitely do.

Crowded House at Wembley "soulless husk of a venue" Arena last Sunday exceeded all expectations and was one of the few gigs I've been to stone cold sober but still enjoyed every moment. Huge setlist and they even played obscure album tracks which you wouldn't have seen New Order doing erm, ever.

In a rare Hooky moment, Neil Finn stopped the whole band mid-number to berate the overzealous security trying to force people back into their seats then carried on with the tune exactly where he left off. Top man :nod:

Finally, I'd also count Rock Ness mostly for the Viking company of BIGINOIL, Jemma and Roy plus some bizarre camping adventures. Driving to Inverness is a bit like going to the moon though, even for me :laugh:

Okey dokey, been to quite a lot of gigs this year, so here are the top 5:

LCD Soundsystem at Summercase, Barcelona Had never heard of them before, and that gig made me go out and buy their entire back catalogue...

The Chemical Brothers at Summercase, Barcelona Blinding gig, with lots of friends... "Get Yourself High" - indeed! :)

Re:Order/The Smythes, Camden, London Absolutely superb night (looking forward to tomorrow night as well) - lots of friends, New Order covers, what more do you want?

Rebuild (A Guy Called Gerald/Graham Massey), Elephant & Castle, London Graham & Gerald playing live on analogue Rolands for the first time since 1988 - superb

A Guy Called Gerald, Club 11, Amsterdam, The Netherlands Superb venue (11th floor of a disused postal sorting office) - great music.

There are a lot more gigs (Underworld, Chems @ Trafalgar Square, Chems @ Amsterdam, Pet Shop Boys/Hooky DJ set, Carter USM, Big Chill Festival, Hexstatic, Rodrigo Y Gabrielle, James, Sisters Of Transistors, Biting Tongues, Paul Hartnoll, Monaco x 2, Versus Cancer, UNKLE, Interpol, etc) that I've been to - all good in one way or another.

The 3 concerts I went this year [all within a month of each other!], my favorites in the order they follow.

#3] Clay Aiken [Sunday 19 August 07] - most fun I could have going to a concert that's got nothing to do with rock whatsoever. Originally went to accompany a friend whose Birthday was two days before the gig. But beware--Clay likes big butts and he cannot lie: he did a pop-song medley starting with Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back!" :laugh: And for him to do that, that takes cajones to do that!! :nod: He's earned my respect.

#2] Punx Picnic [Saturday 18 August 07] - annual punk festival in my small hometown. A good lot of people gather for this festival--15 bands, two stages. One of them, the Antics, reunited just for this festival!! Overall, great stuff. The first two [this year was the 2nd annual!] Picnics were just fanfcukin'tastic--can't wait for next year!!

#1] Morrissey [Sunday 15 July 07] - good Lord, what a night!! Didn't like opening act Kristeen Young very much, but otherwise it was the best night of the year for me. Not much else needs be said on that!! :clap:

Shucks. Seems more a year of missed opportunities. Loved to do the Hovefestival '07. Think in April or May. Interpol's set lists carted out TOTBL and Specialist a couple of times.

Then even if the line- ups not there. Leeds and Reading one year. Monaco's for !Sunrise alone.

I'm dead embarrassed to admit, as has been pointed out to me in the pub tonight by my work colleague Mike who was in Holland at the same time as I .... but, we had a good half-dozen from this site at said gig in the Heineken Hall.

That is sooo shameful -- I genuinely made that comment earlier forgetting I was actually at the Amsterdam gig.

And, yes, from what (little) we saw, it was ace!

The only concert I've seen this year was David Gahan doing a free show at the Apple Store in NYC. I waited 8 hours in line, but it was a darn good gig. That man still sings well and still has a great ass.

Forgot to mention Prince at the o2, excellent show. Best gig i've seen though this year was Bruce Springsteen there at the weekend.
