I went to put my phone on the shelf behind me. Felt the edge of the shelf, pushed the phone up a bit and released. SPLOOSH! The shelf, was in fact 2 inches higher that my paw had been, and the "shelf" I'd set the phone on was a fresh pint of pepsi.
Cue frantic salvage operation, during which I almost tipped the pint over the laptop, and DID empty a fair portion of a bag of ready salted into the poor sod, hence my typing is more bollox than usual today.
Of course it couldn't have fallen in water, oh fuck no, it had to fall in dilute phosphoric acid and sugar.
Ripped the battery out and flung the lot under the tap. Dried it out, powered up fine, screen cleared perfectly after some juice ran through it. BUT, no microwave transceiver, ie, no phone functionality, just a small, crap mp3 player/camera.
So I flushed it totally with servisol (this MAY be retarded, I know it's circuit safe, but is it everything in a mobile-safe), then totally flushed it with plenty of fresh water. It's now drying again.
Moron.
In general most electronics can survive water very well as long as they are powered down. Trouble is, pepsi IS an acid, and could have done all sorts before being washed out. Also, and most worryingly, it lit up wehn it hit the liquid, suggesting a fairly serious short circuit. If any real damage has been done, it will be during this initial contact, or during one of my tests.
And of course, maybe the servisol's eaten it.
Couldn't have happened a month ago when there was still time to ask Santa for one could it. I rather like this phone (moto L6) too :(
