I couldn't go to my Doctor today as it's Saturday and it's shut. I Did talk to a pharmacist but she was useless and said she's never heard of my condition.

About a fortnight ago I noticed I couldn't write or hold a pen. Since then I've realised I've no fine motor control in my right hand at all, and I can't shave properly or even get a comb through my hair using my right hand: and making a roll-up takes ages and is fucking sore! I did see my doctor, a while back, but she said there was no treatment and I'd not have the use of my hand/arm for about six months. She told me I'd radial nerve palsy and not to worry! Which is all I've done since reading this. At first it just felt numb, as if my arm was "sleeping", but recently it's started giving me laldy (great pain.) Plus it's severely pissing me off (simple things like making a coffee take forever), and I'm even feeling tired all the time, which for me is very weird, as I've had insomnia for about 26 years (but it might not have anything to do with my hand/arm.)

Doe's anyone have any medical knowledge and/or suggestions that may lessen my suffering. Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

(NB: it's not R.S.I or signs of a stroke etc etc.)

Bear in mind that this could simply be the result of a nerve being put under pressure. This can happen if you twist your arm, neck or shoulder awkwardly. If you're really worried about it, you can and will be seen at your local hospital's A&E department. It's always best to get it checked out. You may have a bit of a wait, but if it puts your mind at rest, then it's worthwhile. Many people get overly worried when they read articles on the internet. You could try speaking to NHS DIRECT in Scotland.

NHS 24 is a 24-hour telephone health advice and information service for Scotland. The number is 08454 24 24 24.

You'd speak with a qualified Health Adviser, Nurse, or if necessary, Doctor.

Hope that helps.

Yer fucked, basically. It's going to fall off in a few days and then you will have to piss in a bag and have someone extract your shit.

Sounds like some swelling somewhere in the arm is putting pressure on a nerve point. Done anything to strain or stretch the arm, that might have damaged muscle or tissue?

Seriously, ring NHS Direct, they will be able to advise a lot better than anyone on here. Good luck.

i have that for the last six months, though in my left arm, i thought it was carpal tunnel syndrome, though told later by a consultant that it was some degenerative muscle in the arm, it is much better than the last few months, and was told to not to worry about it

i hasten to add before you get worried, that everyone is different, though, i was told that it would get better slowly. though its best to talk to an orthapedic consultant before any action is taken, contact your local gp who would put you in touch with your hospital. i hope in some way, i have alieved the worry about it. though do not neglect going to doctors

That was just too much wanking in your case though! :evil4:

If you are really lucky it is Multiple Sclerosis.

Best thing you can do after getting some real medical advice is plenty of rest and shut eye, and go easy on the alcohol and other substances.

Not exactly what I would call lucky, that.

Follow the others advices. Hospital is the best place where you can get an answer.

Wrist drop? Maybe you are turning GAY, that`s it!

Thanks for the answers. As Chris rightly suggested it can be caused by pressure (in my case I fell asleep on it for the 1st time for 4 days, and lay on it for 8hrs solid). I've already saw my Doc about it, but at that time it was just numb and not causing pain. I helped my ex train as a nurse, and I am a chronic asthmatic (had it as long as I can remember) and haven't ever panicked at being unable to breathe. I'm not the nervous type re this sort of stuff and know better than to freak about side-effects (possible side-effects) etc. Forgot about NHS 24, I'll give them a quick bell and see what they suggest. Cheers all.

Jiphy hospital waiting times in my area are beyond a joke! I had to take my daughter to Accident and Emergency not so long ago. Without going into details her problem was as frighting as fuck, and she needed the immediate attention of a Doctor. 5 and a half hours later we finally saw a doctor, for all of two minutes, and were sent home with a few useless pills. Plus the expense is breath taking £40, just to get there and back, and as you know, living on measly state benefits, this is quite a lot of money to "lose". Even if I had it at the moment (which I don't.)

One of my Uncles died of MS, a horrible disease. I helped my ex write a large "report" on it too. But there's fuck all wrong with my myelin: my brain nerves work faster than superman's. That's why I've such a massive intellect.

I rarely drink alcohol Ron, one or two a year. As for "go easy on the other substances."

I'd rather be dead!

You might know (better than me) that droppped wrists are typical homosexual body moves. So it`s not a joke, just a sympton observation. :D

Well phoned HNS 24 about three quarters of an hour ago. "But all the nurses are busy at the moment, do you mind if we call you back?"

Looks like I'll just need to suffer it till Monday when I can see a doc. So this is how the best medical care system in the world works. Don't get me wrong I think the Doctors/Nurses do a great job, and work 25 hours a week, but there's far too many "targets" and other airy fairy shit that's nothing to do with practising medicine nowadays. For every Doctor and or Nurse there seems to be a dozen managers whose only concern is league tables and saving money. I mean for fuck sake if there's one place were people should be put before profit this is surely it!

Edited PS: still not phoned back, thank fuck it wasn't an asthma attack, I'd be dead by now!

Next Edited PS: Almost 2hrs later: Finally get talking to a doctor:
Doc:"Have you ant painkillers in the house" Me:"Ibuprofen, but asthmatics aren't meant to take them" Doc:"If you've took them before and been OK I'd recommend taking 400mg,and buying some paracetamol tomorrow" Me:"OK" (Thinks: should I take a wee trip into Possil!?) Doc:"And make am appointment with your Doctor for Monday".

NHS helpline: No. Help. Suckers! (Unless you can't work out the obvious for yourself.)

Later added edit: "Don't get me wrong I think the Doctors/Nurses do a great job, and work 25 hours a week" Lucky bastards all that money for a 25hr week, and all they can do is moan about their wages!

Fuck me yet another PS! "Doc:"Have you ant painkillers in the house" What? "Naw I don't keep many insect analgesics handy!I've only aspirin for wasps in the house."

thats the symptoms when it first started with me, if you kinda see that one hand is kinda swelling up compared to the other hand

also, it might help to massage the joint of the wrist and of the hand, that has helped me loads, though, you condition maybe something else compared to mine

your doctor never even gave you anti imflamotary? oh did you say you got asthma?

Yeah, Chronic Asthmatic,(was in & out of hospital/oxygen tents when I was younger) supposedly means I can't take a wide range of drugs (painkillers mainly) which suppress the cough reflex/depress breathing, but in my case I've never had any trouble (except with dihydrocodeine [DF118's] which after two days just give me really bad constipation and fuck my chest up.) Real opiates and derivatives, I'm fine with but.

Gimme More More More: "'cause it's my wife and it's my life" :D

That's exactly what I was hoping my Doc would suggest/give me, some sort of physiotherapy/exercise to relive the pain, but she said nowt can be done. Time is the only healer. Six months without the use of my right hand/arm absolute fucking nightmare can't draw, write, take photos right, or even do boring shit like make coffee, do dishes, or empty bins without pain. Thanks for the sympathy/advice Digi.:thumb:

I'm fucking cursed mate. I come from a long lived family. All my relatives lived well into their eighties. So I've another 40 odd year of this hell (that could so easily be heaven) to put up with before I shuffle off this mortal coil, and finally get some bloody peace and quiet. There's nothing more frightening to me than the thought of an afterlife and doing all this again, My idea of heaven is my bones rotting in peace where they lay and no more accursed conscience (its something I don't get about religious people? Why are they willing to accept that they had no "before life" but are so certain they'll have an "after life"?)

Cheers mate.

Andrews Liver Salts, the bee's knee's. But however uncomfortable the constantpatience is, that's not the real trouble, it's the inability to breathe/asthma that it brings on, plus they DF's (dihydrocodeine 118's) are some evil pharmacists joke on the world; they work better than itching powder! (Plus, unless I'm mistaken, like speed [amphetamine sulphate] and methadone it was a Nazi chemist that synthesized it/them!)

Sorry mate, I'm knackered and keep passing out between posts.

But I;m not sure what you mean re: the letters etc.

I take it you did have "radial nerve palsy"/wrist drop" as well. It seems pretty rare from what I can gather, How long did it take you to recover? Did it require ops? (Thanks for the info btw). And did you find it painful too? (as well as a right royal pain!)

i still got it six months on, but its a lot less, radial nerve palsy doesnt seem to register what the consultant said but you were saying that you were suffering numbness and can hardly grip things, like my little finger and the wedding ring finger

i was told that it will get better but slowly and stop repetitive motions, well i drive everyday, so cant really do so, im due to have some emg??? test on me in feb to see if any nerve has been damaged, in regards to the fact that if any nerve signals have been lost

does the hand feel like its swelling up near

I'll need to go for a few hours kip to get my brain back in gear. But I'd like to talk more to you about this if that's OK. Maybe give you a PM later if it's cool, I'll see what I can do in return, poss, a few tunes your missing/haven't heard. Thanks mate, All The Best The Now. But I need to get to my kip for a while. Your Help/advice has been much appreciated (if slightly scary, It's bloody hopeless being one handed). Thanks mate. :thumb: Hope to talk to you as soon as I'm compos mentis again.
