Hendrix on a Rickenbacker?

Did Hendrix ever play a 12 string?

I've just seen a list of people who played a 360/370 12 on t'internet and Hendrix was mentioned. Never seen that mentioned anywhere, but then again I've not been paying attention really.

Good question, Rev. I've never heard any recordings of Jimmy playing a Rickenbacker, but I have found this picture.

Who gives a toss? His riffs are too technical and self indulgent. Kind of like musical masturbation. Same for Clapton, Richards, Townshend, whoever that guy in Pink Floyd is and any other of those so called guitar heroes that everyone seems to bang on about.

I kind of agree. I read Clapton's book over Christmas and listened to a bit of his music at the same time. Most of it's crap, but technically he's a wizzard. You can appreciate skill without actually liking the finished product.

Can't say the same for all of Hendrix: he had some belting tunes. I'd be really interested to hear sound that he managed to get out of a 370, which is one of the most flattering guitars I've played. My reasoning being if it can make me sound good, what will it do to Jimmy?

No that's his. They discussed it at some length on the forum I found the pic on.

And he is actually playing it in the photo. Not many people know that Hendrix could play the guitar with either one of his ears. The Who are accompanying him my humming and tapping their feet.

Sadly, there is no known recording of this session as Keith Moon was supposed to be operating the tape recorder with his knob and he pressed rewind and stop instead of play and record.

Although the 60's produced some belting guitarists it would be Barney and John Squire (first Stone Roses album only) for me every time, although admittedly JS is heavily inspired by Hendrix. The Britpop era was quite a good time for guitarists also with bands like the La's,Cast etc

I'd contest that. Barneys lack of technical ability is actually his greatest strength because it strips each song down to the essential elements without the fret wankery. He is certainly better at melody than Hendrix. I dont want to reignite the old debate about whether Barney is or is not a good guitarist, but he is restrained and elegant on so many NO songs: Temptation, Ceremony, Leave Me Alone, Dream Attack, Run, Loveless, Regret. And Crikey! how could I forget his work in Joy Division - a true punk guitarist in approach if ever there was one.

Barney was better at drugs than Hendrix.

chas chandler is quoted as saying you could,t have a conversation with jimi and his associates as they were always on diferent types of drugs , one was up and the others down or somewhere in between.

hendrix also spent 5 hours multi tracking the wind crys mary whilst noel reading scored some stuff went to the pub pulled a "chick" and came back to lay his track down,, im only the bassplayer man,, such fun.

Barney's superiority in the drug-taking stakes really came down to consistency in not choking to death on his own sick. This alone makes him a superior artist to Hendrix.

there is a hendrix 12 string on show at the barcelona "hard rock cafe" it only got 6/7 strings left on it so the man must have played it sometime,
