Has this man always been such a pompous arse? He clearly seems to think he is some sort of authority on popular music - admittedly he does come out with some useful bits of information but otherwise its mostly dross.

Worse than that is the fact that he has appointed himself as some sort of spokesman for the north. Only the other day he had written some sort of self-indulgent article in the Mirror eulogising the virtues of pies or chips or something else I really dont care to remember. Am I right in thinking he now lives in London? If thats the case, what a complete tit.

Northerners living in London or the South, criticing is it and ejaculating over how great the north is - very irritating. Especially as most of us down here (me included) actually quite like the north (especially Manchester) and are at worst apathetic about it.

try reading one of his books.

he knows a fair bit more than most about music (not as much as lamaq though, natch) through his time working on the nme back when it meant something.

I've just finished watching his 'Pop: What Is It Good For?' documentary on BBC4. and I've been telling the missus how much I love him. (she doesn't feel threatened) he is always entertaining but still treats the subject of music like it's an important thing and he manages to be evangelical, overarticulate and childlike yet still seem sincere. having met him a few times, he's always been very warm and generous as well as being as witty and informed as you'd expect. amongst many of my colleagues - he is their favourite guest. not just for his contribution but for his behaviour.

I think he's a treasure.

I actually like the fact that Morley's around, despite finding his actual writing quite unpleasent to read. So I don't.

That guy is becoming more contagious than the clap! You can't tune into the TV and watch any of those "I love the 70s/80s/90s" or other such "retrospective / top 50 / 100" visual and audio soundbyte snorefests without THAT goofy fizzog appearing on each and every one of them without fail spouting the usual know-it-all platitudes or snidey quips. Even those tedious Grumpy Old men (AND women probably) episodes arent complete without this gimp. Dunno about anybody else but he's looking more and more like Larry Grayson the older he gets. He needs a good kicking! Or better still, lock him up in a room with Paul Morley, let's see how much brown-nosing hot tongue action goes on then.
