Earthquake in England

Most likely caused by sea-floor spreading at the mid-Atlantic ridge. Divergent plate boundries are a source of alot of earthquakes (i.e. Japan). It is seperating at uneven rates (2.3 cm per year at London's latitude; 1.8 cm per year at Scotland's latitude) and directions (E/W at London's latitude; SE/NW at Scotland's lattitude), which can cause things to buckle over time, and releasing at one point---causing the earthquake.
These things usually come at pretty even time intervals... at least in Earth timeline....

Every bugger and his dog was on the phone to us within two minutes of it happening. All we could do was wait for auntie bbc to post something so we'd something to tell them. Didn't feel it here at all. Edit: posted from my phone for first time. I'm now officially chrissie r
I felt it, it woke me but as I live near East Mids airport i thought it was a plane taking off :)
i thought something had driven into the side of the house. terrifying.
i was on the phone to my friend in york and he felt it too. he was online so i suggested he check news sites for details - gave him a minute or two, then asked how he was getting on. "hang on", he said, "i'm just updating my status..."
i wasnt that shocked that an earthwake was shaking the house, because i was already shaking from accrington stanley actually winning a home game a few hours earlier

5.3 ACTUALLY. tsk.
I think what happened was that the god of England detonated a bomb under the ground to express his sympathy with a different political course.

were you in Oregon when they had the 5.6 quake in 93? woke me up at 5:30 in the morning, I thought the g/f had loaded the washing machine unevenly
( I was living in Salem at the time, fairly close to the epicenter)
from the BBC:
Rescue worker Wayne Simpson found Sharon Smith, 17, a mother of four, under some rubble crying. He asked "where you bleeding from?" She replied "Essex, but wots that got to do wiv anyfing?

It's all Labour spin - there's going to be some bad news buried today, so they came up with the earthquake story to cover it up!

No, only lived in Oregon from 2001-2003....
...but I've lived most of my life in So Cal, so earthquakes are a way of life down here....
