I loved There Goes The Fear (who didn't). I should have know that a glowing review from student rag NME is normally the kiss of death. I bought The Last Broadcast and after several listens, I was so disappointed by it. Only 'Pounding' makes any kind of a mark surrounded by the most dreary of filler tracks sounding like a pissed Radiohead jamming session.

Can't believe how bad it was. The way people were raving about it you would think this album was the best thing since the Smiths and OK Computer. The Last Broadcast really won't appeal to anyone outside of the NME 'they have guitars...they must be great' level of thinking.

Did anyone else think it was crap?

No, I really like it. They were pretty damn good when I saw them live recently too....so I guess we'll have to differ on that one, Rob.

Yeah indeed..... it's the turn of Doves to have their longterm career prematurely ruined by that scourge of everything "THE HYPE MACHINE" as instigated by the likes of the fucking sound-byte-bling-tone-obsessed NME....

At least with Radiohead it meant they did turn out two post-OK Computer albums that gleefully split their fans into two camps. Whether or not (the overrated) Starsailor will go the same way remains to be seen.... As for Doves - they're now caught in the glaring headlights like the proverbial rabbits as to how to live up to the ridiculous expectations heaped on them now with their next venture. I actually haven't even got round to getting their "Last Broadcast" yet (too busy wetting myself waiting for The Breeders to come back - only to be floored sideways by their radical change of direction!), but judging from the mixed reviews it's got...I'm not sure if I should bother investigating it either....seeing as I quickly grew bored of "There Goes The Fear" - for some strange reason it had a very short shelf life to me!! (I liked "Lost Souls" though - it was ok)

Bought the album on Major and his magic torch's advice - and I've gotta say....I like it;) Pounding was my original fave, then TGTF, and currently it's Words:nod: They're gonna be a good support act in Mancland - the only thing that concerns me, is that if we're having the usual craic in the pub beforehand, will anyone wanna go see em? Only kidding - looking forward to a hot day - beer tenttastic and interested to see how SWR will sound also!
