isn't it always the fucking same shite as the previous ones??? in other words: the killers, kaiser chiefs, bloc party, hard-fi, kooks, wombats and all these so-called great bands of the british new-wave (besides the killers who hail from the mighty Vegas)...boringboring? or not?

You have the wrong festival :)

Really not keen on rock festivals and I am surprised New Order ever gave them the time of day. Not keen on all that sweaty, hairy, shared rock experience vibe. Those dingy early gigs and the later warehouse scene suited them down to the ground.

Okay, the thing about festivals is that they (normally!) have numerous stages with different styles/different bands on - this is especially true with Glastonbury...

So, if you want to watch rock bands, then go to the rock stage, and if you want to go and see a folk band, then go to the folk stage... If you want to go and see some comedy, go to that one, etc...

Unfortunately, when they show festivals like Glastonbury on television, they'll only show you about 0.5% of the festival (i.e. the bands that NME think are flavour of the month, e.g. Killers/Babyshambles/etc)...

So, if you don't like certain bands, go to another stage - that's what it's all about! :)

True but Glastonbury has become quite middle of the road and corporate hasnt it. I suppose my other main concern is that the format of these big events is so predictable. You really couldnt beat the spontaneous drugged up guerilla gigging style of the warehouse or orbital raves (although admittedly the planning of these events also took quite a lot of preparation). Perhaps that would be a good thread title 'Oddest and most bizarre live performances'

Completely agree, although you can avoid the pompous bands at Glastonbury - I managed to miss Paul McCartney back in 2004, as well as Muse... :)

Caught Orbital, One Giant Leap, and a whole load of smaller bands, though...

Having said all that, I do try and go to smaller, less commercialised festivals nowadays (the ones that are unlikely to even get a review, let alone be on the tele)! :)

I do hope that this is going to be the last Glasto, as rumoured, cos frankly it's getting

1. way way too fucking expensive
2. way way too fucking corporate
3. way way too fucking boring and predictable

The TV coverage is the most insulting of all anyway, the fact it's so selective speaks volumes about the contradictory nature of it, considering there is much much more to the event than just the hippest bands du jour - and no, I don't mean the usual tokenistic gesture of having one folk band, one acoustic singer-songwriting hippy, one African world band, one eastern European Polka ensemble, one exotic band and one circus act etc etc that the Beeb so delight in doing just so they can appear to be covering all bases (they're not - they're just being tokenistic and crap!).

I've had my fill of these huge festivals simply cos they're so extortionate nowadays that you need to remortgage your house to be able to attend a few of them.... pah!!

Huge festivals = overrated.
