A few of us are putting mix tapes together.

Not a bad idea for a thread.

I started to right the post, then got distracted, was going to cancel it then posted it anyway in error.

So I am sorry that my normal standards of clarity, completeness and good spelling were not observed.

But yes, it's a cd which means about 15 tracks. Music that you like, that you think that others would like or that you might just play to get unwanted visitors to piss off.

Only one track by each artist is the only rule.

My first attempt looked like this, but I'm not happy with it:

  1. Another Boy Drowning - The The
  2. Nothing Compares to U - Prince
  3. Come Up and See Me (Make Me Smile) - Duran Duran
  4. Telephone and Rubber Band - Penguin Cafe Orchestra
  5. The Dream's Lost on Me - Blondie
  6. Delia - Bob Dylan
  7. Get The Message - Electronic
  8. Open Up - Leftfield
  9. Voodoo Ray - A Guy Called Gerald
  10. Sister Siam - The Whip
  11. Missed the Boat - Modest Mouse
  12. 2129 - Alabama 3
  13. Stay Young - Oasis
  14. Turn - New Order
  15. Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffett

I'd have a version of Won't Wait That Long that James did on Key 103 about 20 years ago. Absolutely loved that song and they ruined it by slowing it down for the album they eventually released it on.

I'd love someone to show me the chords for it. It's a great guitar sound.

Anyone fancy the challenge of working out the chords? I've got it on MP3 so could send it over MSN.

It would make my life better if I could play that song. Definitely

we could just rebel. how's he going to stop us? i might do a second myself - and then a THIRD. maybe even a fourth. yeah, that's right. i'm a renegade, compiling outside the law.

Jesus Snorri look what you've started now.

Everyone thinks they can have as many disks as they want now.

It's fucking anarchy.

I'm having a terrible time refining my list.

And that's the point.

You have to limit yourself to 15 tracks and no more than one by each artist.

I drove 150 miles with a hangover today and all I thought about was whether to change my Bob Dylan track.

Biggest Thing on Two Wheels wrote:

Well thats 3 discs ive done, and not one band/musician appears twice, thats 45 different musos

So what if about 40 of them are shite..

i reckon i can get more than 15 on a cd. i'm going to squeeze on massive attack and bjork and james (say something though, not sometimes) and then i'm going to actually make it.

and then sit and stroke it.

I tell you what we'll do, let's all ignore the fucking rules and do what the fuck we want, shall we. Actually I'm a bit pissed off with driving on the left, I'm going to start using the middle of the road. At 120 miles an hour. And I'm going to stop paying for things in shops and I'll batter any cats I see to death in the street. Just because I want to. And I'm going to blow out the Olympic flame too.

Fucking morons, the lot of you. Can't follow simple instructions.

15 tracks, one disk, don't repeat the artist. It's so simple and yet seems to be beyond you all.

It's people like you lot that are responsible for the utter decline that will be the ruin of this world.

you take that back. just playing a bunch of songs in a random order ignores the delicate art of the mix tape compilation; the careful selection of tracks and running order, the loving segue from fade to intro, the mastery of juxtaposition and transition.

times may change, my friend, but some things will never die.
