Anyone else notice this?
UK record companies demanding a levy on mp3-players, NOT to cover illegal downloading, but as a charge for 'format shifting' i.e. people ripping their legally purchased cds.
The infuriating bit is that they have the EU on their side.
I liked the comment that said:
"We acknowledge that we have made piles of money from 'format shifting' throughout the history of recorded music and now that particular gravy train has been unceremoniously derailed. Could everyone please help us lift it back onto the tracks...? Anyone?"
