Madonna still around in 2008... why?

I asked two questions it seems, I guess to stir the pot. Who exactly are her fans at this point? Why would the kids give a fuck about her in 2008?

And sexy or bore? Sorry to imply that she is too old, she has obviously worked hard to stay fit and paid the best people to make her look youthful. But maybe Madonna should could give this "eroticism" facade a rest thou. She looks sorta like a 12 year old boy crossdresser in those latest shots, hardly sexy. Her frigid superficial facade is hardly "wankable", nor either is the drag queen-ish look she often has.

i think shes still 'popular' because shes very middle of the Road, she reinvents her image by jumping on the latest trend so the mainstream media will pick up on it.

Plus theres the Parent factor, many teenagers parents now will have a madonna cd in their collection I imagine, i know thats how i first heard a madonna cd, my mum was a big fan back in the day, not that i am much of a fan these days.

She has quite a knack for reading emerging trends. Her reinventions never seem to scream, "me too!".

As for her looks, she is what all aspiring cougars should model themselves after. :D Personally, the Material Girl era in my favorite.

On side note, there is another prolific pop performer of simialr age whose life and career once paralleled Madonna's, but have taken a decidedly different turn. That would be Michael Jackson. What a shame. He went from having the pop world in the palm of his hand to the foreslosure of Neverland Ranch.

How old is Tina Turner these days? I'm sure she was 60 last time I saw her. She wore a tiny skirt in you're the best video and noone seemed to mind it.

Each to their own I guess. The one thing I do mind tho is the need for promoting her political views during every gig nowdays. Utter rubbish! It's like she's trying to compensate her obvous vanishing sexiness with her political persuasions and prove she's still on top. That's where that kiss with Britney came from, she simply needed to prove that she's still got it. And she does, whether you like it or not

inspired by this thread, i was having a little listen to the material girl today when a class turned up. "oooh it's madonna" chirruped the girls. 11/12, they were.

To answer the question. Madonna is around in 20008 because shr remains popular enough to fill out Stadiums and Arenas worldwide charging nearly £200 a pop. She's extraordinary successful at selling gig tickets, selling records, and re inventing herself. She's an excellung publicist, a well known philanthropist and takes pride in what she does.

There are loads of artists who could learn a thing or two from her.

Let's think of Amanda Lear - she may be as well talented but she lacks a helluva of PR trickery her ex, Salvador Dali, or Madonna had.

The article is very much Burchill-by-numbers stuff though, as usual, she makes some interesting points. The ones that stick in my head are the ones about Madonna coming across as humourless and the contrast between Madonna and Amy Winehouse with regards to talent. I don't think Julie Burchill mentioned that she's working class in the article, which I find staggering, she always mentions that.

Oh aye! That was in Mick Middles' book,didn't she go to Gretton's house and got let in through the outside door by friend of Rob's on his way out,but she couldn't get in the inner door or get Rob's attention.And she couldn't get out either! Rob got up next day and she's spralled across the floor,where she's been sleeping rough.

I can't remember the details. Hooky told the tale on that film that was shown at the Irbis Hac exhibition, I think.
