A sad day for all lovers of recreational drugs, get your best aciiiiid stories posted. (mine concerns the Brazil v Turkey match in the 98 world cup, a packed train & a couple of loons tripping their boxes off)

LSD inventor Albert Hofmann dies

Mr Hofmann thought LSD could have uses treating mental illnesses

Albert Hofmann, the Swiss chemist who discovered the hallucinogenic drug LSD, has died of a heart attack at his home in Basel at the age of 102.

Mr Hofmann first produced LSD in 1938 while researching the medicinal uses of a crop fungus.

He accidentally ingested some of the drug and said later: "Everything I saw was distorted as in a warped mirror".

He hoped LSD could be used to treat mental illness, but it became a popular street drug in the 1960s.

'Turn on, tune in, drop out'

While working with the drug in the Sandoz pharmaceutical laboratory a few years after first producing it, Mr Hofmann ingested some of the drug through his fingertips.

He went home and experienced what he described as visions of "fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colours".

The drug was popularised by Harvard professor Timothy Leary who suggested that people "turn on, tune in, drop out".

Rock stars and the counter-culture of the 1960s picked up LSD as a wonder drug but horror stories began to emerge of users suffering permanent psychological damage.

LSD was made illegal in many countries beginning in the late 1960s.

Never tried it myself, but watching people on it is hilarious.

When I lived in L.A. (years ago) my next door neighbor was this huge 6'3", full of muscle, gang member. I saw him take on three guys once and beat the living crap out of them, actually bashing one of the guy's teeth on the curb.
Anyways, he took LSD and hid in the my closet. When I asked him why, he was scaried to death I would tell my roommate where he was and that he would kick his ass. He was in a ball of tears and actually frightened like a cornered rat... my roommate was 5'4" really, really skinny dude that had never been in a fight in his life and I don't think flies were scared of him. I couldn't talk hm out and he stayed in my closet, screaming and crying when ever I opened it, for about four hours. I think I opened it every 5 minutes just for fun.:evil4:

So he came out of the closet eventually then?

It's never been for me. I get confused and act daft enough as it is.

Take acid, live to 102!!!!!

Lasts too long for my liking. But never ever had a bad time on acid, ever. Then again, I never dosed myself to the level I did on mushrooms, where things did go very very wrong indeed, just once, and after that I never could enjoy them again.

couple rules on LSD

  1. buy from someone who has worked in the past. crap LSD is crap.
  2. never start the trip after 10pm. otherwise you will skip sleep. days are best to trip anyway becasue you need the light.
  3. trip with people you like. going solo is no good, neither is hanging with a bunch of tools.
  4. take a xanex, valium, bong hit when you drop to take the edge off.
  5. be in a public place where you can get lots of human interaction.
  6. don't actually submit the code to the cvs repository till you sober up.

r.i.p.

Something tells me you only know those rules by breaking each one of them at some point?

After nights out at Shelley's in Stoke, everyone used to pile down to Keele service station on the M6 'cos it was the only place still open. Dozens of people would be dancing on the tables in the 24hr cafe to the music still playing in their heads.

Keele hill is hardly the WTC, but it was all we had.....

R.I.P. my fucking youth.

Well, at least you've got the "sweet". All mine are bitter.

And if things don't work out this Sunday I'll be dragging sharp things across my wrists in the bathtub....

What Happened on your mushroom trip? Just the opposite for me. Never had a bad time on mushrooms but have gonetoo far on acid. The bad acid experience might have been attributed to a pre existing emotional problem but I'm sure I'll never try it again.

102, wow, might have to keep on taking.

For the comedown, leave the Xanax alone, just take a few litres of Vitamin C, does the same thing, and you dont feel asleep for days afterwards.
