overall, i think the james bond series has produced some great theme songs. especially:
a-ha--the living daylights carly simon--nobody does it better wings--live and let die sheena easton--for your eyes only shirley bassey--goldfinger madonna--die another day duran duran--a view to a kill
I'd go along with 'for your eyes only',head and shoulders above the rest. But,Duran Duran and Madge are most certainly at the bottom of the list.
Far better than any of those are surely:

Love bond tunes. Best is surely either the 007 theme from You only Live Twice (the magnificent 007 really when you hear it), and the Capsules in space piece from the same movie.

As a boy, I had an LP that had all the theme songs on it. I played it to death. Can't say which I like best, as each is a great song. I always liked the theme matching with the classy intro of naked women... more based on the artful beauty of woman's body, rather than the carnal flipside of it...
Diamonds, Moonraker, Goldfinger, Daylights, View to a Kill, Live & Let Die are my faves!
That dance remix album is pretty good for a spin every now and then as well.

Forgot about You Only LIve Twice,but I prefer Soft Cell's cover.
The early ones from the 1960s are the best, IMO. The World is Not Enough, was a catchy song, and Madonna's Die Another Day would be bearable, but certainly not the best Bond song ever made, though.
Others include You Only Live Twice and K.D.Lang's Surrender at then end of Tomorrow Never Dies.

it is, yes. A classic moment as the USA spacecraft is eaten by the USSR opening capsule, with spectacular Gerry Anderson style effects. Just wondering why its on my Shaken not Stirred CD in the middle of OHMSS by Propellerheads. Still, its the best of both worlds. John Barry is a God.
10/10 Well spotted, the effects in YOLT were indeed done by Derek (fucking HOOOJ explosion) Meddings, of Thunderbirds fame.
Needless to say it's got the biggest explosions of any Bond I can think of, except the others Derek did 
I've always liked Louis Armstrong's "We Have All The Time In The World" (as well as the MBV cover of it)! :)
Other than that, the Shaken Not Stirred album is superb, especially the aforementioned Propellerheads track!

Just been watching ALL ABOUT THUNDERBIRDS on BBC I-player. Derek all aglow of blowing things up. I actually forgot there was a MYSTERON Agent in Spectrum!!!
Here's my list... note that I classified not only on how good the song was, but how fitting it was for a James Bond movie (with the begining credits of women-cinematography)...

Someone HAS to give Gerry money for a new series man. The new Capt Scarlet was spectacular, and they killed it off by showing it during MoM on a sat morn.
Big Barry Gray concert on this summer, he wou;d have been 100 this year!! Tempting to go, but then, as well as all the cool sci-fi tunes, he was Vera Lynne's main songwriter, so, erm no thanks.
PS....Cozzie, you have no soul pet. I like View to a Kill too, but to pick it out of some of THE finest tunes ever written is mental.

I also liked Carly Simon's theme to The Spy Who Loved Me, as much as I loved the movie. I absolutely detested the Austin Powers movie that... you know what.
I liked the Duran Duran song at first, but it hasn't stood the test of time as much as The Living Daylights has.

Not a bad song, but not fitting for James Bond.... and it was one of the worst, if not THE worst Bond movie ever to come out....

not bad at all. considering it the soundtrack was supposed to be done by the pet shop boys.

Coldplay were in the frame for Casino Royale apparently but it went to that other fella. pity, cos im not a big Coldplay fan, but they do that sweeping orchestra stuff pretty well.
"For your eyes only" always gives me a shiver, because it was the song of the first Bond I ever saw (in a film theatre).
