Yeah. It's my opinion too, that the Kooks are overrated.

The Cribs.

No debate about it. The best and one of the most under-rated in my opinion. They're responsible for the best album of the last twelve months (Mens Needs/Womens Needs) and the best gig I've been to in about the last five years (Barrowlands in Feb).

Don't be put off by the screaming lassies and the wanky interviews as I was til last year. Download Mens Needs and The New Fellas (second album) and check out how poweerful one guitar, bass, drums and an out of tune singer can be. Don't bother with their first album though cos it's shite.

Never understood the hype behind Belle & Sebastian... granted I only gave Tigersmilk a spin, but nothing all that special from what I heard:shrug:

Dunno whether they're the best British bands around now, but the ones that I seem to be listening to a lot lately are:

Simian Mobile Disco (looking forward to the Japanese live album I've just bought!) The Whip (cheers to biginoil for the heads-up on this!) The Music (cheers to Burt for this - also didn't realise that Paul Hartnoll produced it... Talking of Paul Hartnoll, the new VW Golf advert is his music!)

and those that have been around for a while (or comprised of members of previous bands):

A Guy Called Gerald (still love his stuff, but I'm probably in a minority) Sisters Of Transistors (Graham Massey's new band - consisting of 4 organ players performing 'horror' soundtrack-type music!) Long Range (Phil Hartnoll's - ex-Orbital - new band with Nick Smith - promising first album, can't wait for the next)

Blimey.. its a bit rawwwwk for him isn't it? Can't imagine him in the studio saying 'turn the bass up'. As long as it doesnt delay Orbital reforming c.2010.

I think he likes a bit of rawwwwk (remember, he was a bit of a punk rocker, as evidenced by the Butthole Surfers sample in Satan)! :)

Now, yes, an Orbital reunion c.2010 would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath... :\ohwell:

Oh, and with regards to the Doves, this is what the Heavenly website said back in April:

"Doves band are in the studio at the moment, mixing some bits and writing some more bits. What we've heard is pretty bloody awesome, expect some movement in a few months, not sure when the album will be out though..."

Hmmm...

think you'd have to have released at least three albums to be in with a shot of being the best band, rather than just having the best album

the wedding present are there or there abouts for me; live shows have a different seet every time, last album was one of their best so not peaked yet & have a new album out soon

the national are my current fave american band

& for whoever said belle & sebastian haven't done much for ages, their last album was released about 18 months or so ago

So Stone Roses weren't in with a shout in 1990?

I still don't understand how Gedge can mask the shame of re-naming Cinerama and going out to tour 'George Best'. The terms "cynical" and "money-grabbing" spring to mind. It's been discussed at length on here before but he is, by all accounts, a right royal prick.

Opinions on The Cribs Mr. Wibble?

Radiohead, without question.

The Editors? Well, I still think their first album's ace. Ditto with Bloc Party.

The Doves? New material, please.

Coldplay? They lost the map with X&Y and I'm not sure how their latest album might go. Their new single's got some airplay on the indie station in my end of town.

The Music? Still jamming to their first two albums, can't wait to get the third! :thumb:

Who are these bands "The Doves" and "The Editors" that you speak of?

Personally, I think they have all gone indie mad, though not a bad idea, I think most of it is crap, but its better than those annoying boy/girl bands, with their "clean cut" image, I would say the Wombats out of the lot are one of the best, Kaiser Chiefs come second, because, they suck to commercialism to much

I actually quite like the Wombats. But I'm not INSANE enough to declare it in this place.
