Anybody in/on/around on this forum here going? and does someone know if it will be shown live on telly?

It's defo on the box (not sure what station). I've never been drawn to the big festivals,too many people,too few bogs. bound to be a few on this forum going.

Be interesting to see just how man bother to stay for Jay Z.

they've been singing along to 'sweet caroline' apparently. not necessarily people from this website. glasto-goers in general.

naughty little pete doherty's band have cancelled, unsurprisingly.

and kate nash was wearing a twirly skirt for her set this morning.

i'm booooooooored. maybe i should whack on some neil diamond and do some twirling of my own.

are there any creepy looking clowns?

I don't think Edith Bowman is presenting on the tv coverage this year so i may watch it.But if she is i'll be turning it off.

Get yerself a Mercedes 19 and a half tonne rigid.Drove one this week.They're ace.Be careful to feed her out a bit at junctions though obviuosly elese you'll mount the kerb.6 gears over 6 with the splitter.5.5 for 30 mile an hour and 6.5 for 40 mile an hour.Like being in a spaceship that high up, yers can see for miles and miles ahead.

Bit weird seeing a band like Kings of Leon headlining. They are good at what they do, but headliners? I think not.

Anyone who says that the Glastonbury line up is shite really does need to get out more. I can understand people not wanting to go because of the mud, or the kids, or the middle aged couples there only because the Grauniad recommended it etc etc, but to say the lineup is rubbish, when quite frankly it pisses on every other festival in terms of sheer vareity and quantity is ridiculous.

But then again, its the age old problem... "I've never heard of them, so they must be rubbish"

i agree the elbow single is shite but at some point i suddenly really got into the album. hopefully i will be capable of pressing that red button later

Well, if Jay Z caused people not to buy Glastonbury tickets, he did a good job of pretending otherwise tonight...

I watched the first twenty minutes on telly, but then I got bored by it and turned over. Crowd obviously liked it, and there was enough of them.

Saw some of Winehouses set. She was a disgrace.

Didn't think much of Jay Z, although i didnt watch much of it, and it's not my cup of tea. Gimme Public Enemy any day.

I'm disappointed to see 'Black Kids' are something of a misnomer.

I think the Jay Z thing is why a lot of people are saying the lineup is shite (are there also one or two other "top 40" types too are there not?).

I'm not sure what it is though. There have been hugely comercial bands there since always. There have been what could be called "acts without indie pedigree" before It's not a race thing as African and African derrived music is a staple of the place. And it's not cos it's hip-hop/rap.

For me, my obvious turn off is that 3 of the above conditions are met in one act....it's a manufactured MTV entity with no real pedigree, it's hugely comercial music, and it's rap...which, with a few exceptions I really do not care for. Oh and it comes from my FAVOURITE place

Not that I find JayZ as unpleasant on the ear as many others.

Jay Z is a "manufactured MTV entity with no real pedigree". Really??? Is that a fact?? Google his name and read about his background before making short-sighted claims like that.

Jay Z produces "hugely commercial music". 'Commercial' in the sense that it sells millions yes. 'Commercial' meaning safe and easily accessible, most defineately not.

The backlash against Jay Z is "not a race thing" because "African derived music has always been a Glasto staple". Yes, a white middle-class understanding of what black music is has always featured at Glasto, that's true. Hugh Masakela, The Bhundu Boys and big Gospel choirs full of curvy black women in traditional African robes do appear to get wheeled out annually. Do you think any of these acts are representative of 'black music' in 2008? Do you think the black youth recognise these artists as having anything to do with their life experiences?

Eavis shot up in my estimation tenfold when he got his balls out and booked Jay Z, especially when he detailed his reasons for doing so (although I think booking Kanye would have been a better call). I also knew without a shadow of a doubt that he would rock the show and as anyone who saw it last night has to concede he most certainly did. Where was the mass exodous from the Pyramid Stage that was predicted? It was fucking packed!

As usual, the media called it horribly wrong. It was a triumphant show that went down a storm with a massive section of the 180,000 attendees and his headline slot had nothing to do with the fact that 3% of the tickets didn't sell this year.

I dont like Jay Z, or Rap in general. But I will give Eavis credit for booking someone and something a bit different. All this years major festival headline slots are stale as hell, and at least he didnt book Rage Against the Machine.

Anyway, enough people enjoyed it by the looks of things. I doubt he'll book Kayne West for next year though...

I'll have you know that Colin and I made the effort to go and snear for 5 minutes at a variety of acts at Rock Ness the other week. It wasn't all about the party tent.

Knye West and Daft Punk at this year's Grammys (better than the inevitable return of Coldplay next year).

Not mad on JAY-Z but HEART OF THE CITY with the Sunday Bloody Sunday sample rocked. I thought AMY WINEHOUSE was fantastic,but by the time she got to her next to last song REHAB,she sounded fucking awful. HOT CHIP was another highlight especially teaming up with WILEY to do WEARING MY ROLEX. But the highlight was ELBOW,no I really do like the new single,especially live.

The Verve are playing the best set I've ever seen on the telly.

The value of them T in the Park tickets I want to sell is rising as we speak!

The Verve did seem to be on form, never really been that much of a fan but was impressed. Thought Jay Z was on good form last night too. Can't fucking wait for Summercase now, ain't seen some of you guys for ages!

I wouldnt go to Oxegen if you paid me. If I was to list all the horrible things about festivals, Oxegen would have them all the by the bucketload.

I actually had a chance to go this year. I declined straight away.

Their new single sounded fantastic, didn't hear the whole set but I thought they sounded envigorated, never a massive fan, didn't buy their albums but I reckon credit were it's due, they come back with some fresh stuff that's sounding as good as the classic stuff and I don't think it can be argued they have an impressive back-catalogue.

Thought you were spot on about Jay-Z BTW.

I wouldn't go to any feckin festival unless I was getting paid! It's a work thing. That said, I liked Rock Ness because it was relatively small, the sun shone and the bam count was low. Indian Summer last year at Vicoria Park in Glasgow was even better. 3000 capacity, a Heineken beer garden with big picnic tables and table service and a 30 minute bus ride up the road at the end.

Back on topic, I quite liked the little bit of groove Armada they showed on the telly last night. Never rated them much but looked like a good show.

goldfrapp looked good, it annoyed they didn't play the new editors song or you are fading in their coverage, both were great in the warm up gig they did in frome & there is no known recording of the new song as yet.

I think they played the new song at Rock Ness. Is it slow? The set-times got moved about at the last minute and we missed the first three songs. Arrived at the stage as they were playing some slow song I didn't know. Think it was right before Racing Rats.

Interpol on straight after Editors at Oxegen so should be able to settle that argument once and for all.

Surprised at Interpol being higher up the bill than Editors. Mind you, not as surprised as The feckin Fratellis being higher than them both!

I was more interested in the guitarists than the singing; perhaps this was why I completely missed the point. Is the music just there to carry the singers amazing vocal performance? Thinking back, the people who seemed to be enjoying the performance (rather than just getting ratted, chucking piss around and annoying people like the pricks in front of us) seemed to know all the words and be quite into them.

I was watching the guitarist and wondering whether he knew more than one scale.

Dissapointed the BBC don't appear to have shown any of Shakin' Stevens set, at least not in the coverage i've seen so far:\ohwell: Did you see him Mike? Photos? Recordings?
