next door neighbor was blaring tejano music right outside my bedroom window this am. i observed something about this crap. there is no guitar whatsoever in tejano music. just fucking trumpets and accordions. if there is guitar, you can't hear it for the trumpets.

While I agree, as I would take out someone's kneecaps before shooting to kill (you know I leave the windows open in my home hoping for the day to do this )... that it made news quite big over here might make a few idiots think before the rob a place... so while I don't condone the act entirely, the ruling did pave the way for others to feel confident to protect themselves and for criminals to be fearful

True. I'd rather he'd winged them thatn killed them though, getting shot AND locked up probably pisses dickheads off more than the thought of getting deaded.

i would have just called the cops and let them find them. he should have waited until they broke into his house. then he would have had justified means to shoot them.

You really want some idiot neighbor to think he is free to shoot "bad people" to protect the neighborhood? Maybe good sometimes, maybe really bad other times. Think of the paranoid town idiot with a shotgun, "protecting his neighbors and lawn", just give him some confidence.

There are some good reasons why every society tries to have police, laws, courts to regulate the citizenry... sure nothing is close to perfect but that is the universal condition.

Certainly the recent USA conservative decades have put 4 times the people thru the criminal justice system and gives longer sentences to drug dealers than rapists... is this all a result of rampant liberalism?

Tony Martin received didn't get fined thousands or get sent down for life, which is the only similar case I can think of in the UK.

The only reason he was prosecuted at all was because the guys he shot were leaving the scene - he shot them in the back too.

It's very very rare for anyone to be prosecuted in Britain for killing an intruder within their own home. The handful of cases where a prosecution has been sought, never mind achieved, have been far from simple acts of self-defence – I (half) remember a story about a guy who dug a pit in his property, waited for intruders to fall into it then kept them there for several days during which time he threw things at them, urinated on them and finally set fire to them. The cruel treatment he doled out was found not be justified by his right to defend his self and property.

Anyone shooting someone in someone else’s garden would probably be in serious trouble; unless he could demonstrate that he thought his own safety was at risk. He’d probably have to explain where the gun came from as well.
