Now that we've reached the middle of the year, seems like a good enough occasion to choose my favorite 2008 albums, so far:

The Whip - X marks destination The B-52's - Funplex Spleen United - Neanderthal Helio Sequence - Keep your eyes ahead Primal Scream - Beautiful future M83 - Saturdays=youth The Charlatans - You cross my path R.E.M. - Accelerate Robert Forster - The evangelist Cut Copy - In ghost colours Hot Chip - Made in the dark Wire - Object 47 The Music - Strenght in numbers

What are yours, people?

Is this really one of the best albums of 2008? It's only been out a week.

Must confess I've really gone off the Scream lately... Loved 'em during the experimental Vanishing Point, XTRMNTR and Evil Heat years but since then it's just "good time" garage rock tailor made to sound good at festivals. I.e. BORING.

Might give this new one a spin but if it's more of the same old "we want to be the Stones" rubbish then it'll be going straight in the bin

I'd also add Neon Neon "Stainless Style" to your list as it's definitely one of the best from this year

Is there any point to Primal Scream these days?

It's been a fantastic year for singles, not so much for albums though. The only three that would get a 'very good' from me are

The Teenagers - Reality Check Los Campesinos! - Hold On Now Youngsters MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

All superb.

No more "We wanna be the Stones, maan!" for the Primals, Ally! IMHO, they've done the second best "I wanna be New Order" album of this year (nº 1 is the Whip's one, methinks...)

You know, as we're all currently being moderated, and recycles post is currently being deleted, I'd just like to point out that the majority doesnt think i'm an idiot.

And if you want proof, go you and read the "let me Ask A Question thread" Dave Legge sums it up PERFECTLY

Why do you feel the need to ask such a strange question?

M83's "Saturdays = Youth" album is really, really good. And hats off to R.E.M.'s "Accelerate" and NIN's "The Slip."

Otherwise, not exactly the kind of year for albums in my opinion.

The only album i wanted to buy is Coldplay's new album and I still didn't bother to go buy it or download it.
