What's the rarest music you have in your collection?

Could be in any format. A couple days ago, I won the bid for The Sound CD From the Lion's Mouth from ebay for $73. I'm waiting for it any day now.

I have recordings that I, pissed, have made of myself playing guitar and harmonica and singing that are so rare that only one person in the world will ever listen to them. Once.

I have a bunch of picture discs and promos, but not really sure of thier rarity. Most are of the Cure, but a bunch of NO (even a Revenge single ), Smiths and Smashing Pumpkins, as well...

I too have many such archivs.

The finest being a track recorded by myself and three friends one night when they were tripping their nuts off, and I, while having passed on the acid, was sort of "swept along" with their drug-fueled daftness.

The track is a pseudo thrash metal piece entitled "beep beep ritchie" and is an ode to Pennywise the Clown from "it", which I've never even watched the whole way through.

It was recorded using a cheap Marlin guitar, and a Yamaha Portasound PSS750, and using a 100W Carlsboro valve guitar amp as a pre-amp, actually feeding the Hi-Z SPEAKER output to a tape deck (an Akai midi-hifi). It made the drums sound fucking stunning, I mean Bonham-sized. Overdubs were then performed by playing back the existing recording in one hifi, while re-recording that, plus overdub into a second hifi, the brand of which I do not remember.

It is a masterpiece and I really should mp3 it before the tape disintergrates.

As for actual recordings......hmmm

Live at electric circus on blue vynil and an album called "everything you wanted to hear on a Moog synthesizer but were too afraid to ask for".

I have on vinyl the first Joy Division EP 'An Ideal For Living' and the first Bauhaus single ' Bela Lugosi's Dead ' on vinyl too.

Wicker Man sountrack on Trunk records barklp4 and the timelords "the manual" ok so it's a book.

This isn't rare in Japan, to but others, perhaps. -The Japanese version of Krafty, sung by New Order (Barney) on the Japanese release of WFTSC. -A couple of cover versions by Japanese musicians that are hard to obtain...(Yoko Nagayama's rendition of Bananarama's 'Venus', A cover of the song 'Holding out for a hero' by a Japanese pop star from the 1980s, although I can't remember her name...etc...)

I've got the Incubation/Komokino flexidisc 7". Maybe not that rare for you guys but kinda cool when I got it free in an obscure shop way back then.

Probably got some weird indie label electronic music CDs that nobody else was stupid enough to buy so the actual music itself is probably critically endangered of disappearing from the planet... maybe some hidden gem there.

Always wanted the Universal Indicator Green 12"/10"/7" set (Richard D James "Aphex Twin" involved). Not sure if my life would be any better if I had bought it off of ebay or not.

Well, it was strange that a 1981-82 CD that has been remastered and released in 2001 would go out of print. The CD's price started out from $9.99, I think (It was $15.00 when I saw it and increased from there). I have to have the CD, especially with my DJ job at KPSU.

A tape [and a cd now too] from the front desk of the N.O. Trinity Hall gig in Hamburg in 1984.

Think there's only 1 other copy of this in existence.

Can't do any copies, as i promised not to, sorry!

Dispute between Warners not paying royalties:

"Warner Music UK Ltd had licensed Renascent to release the 3 WEA albums. That licence has expired. The Sound has received no recording royalties whatsoever or even royalty statements in spite of numerous requests to Warner Music. In consequence of this continued default of the Recording Contract, I think it is very likely that Warner Music has legally forfeited any rights it once possessed for these albums.

Renascent are aware of this default and although I understand that it wishes to negotiate a new licence to re-issue these albums, such a licence would probably be invalid, and would mean that The Sound might have a substantial claim for damages against Renascent, which is an independent label.

However, if you are patient, I am sure that at some time in the future the issue will be resolved and one way or another, these albums will be re-released."

I am jealous! I've been trying to find anything by Ceta Javu and Celebrate the Nun, in any format, and have been unsuccessful. :(

I've got mp3s, which took me ages to find, of James doing Wont Wait That Long on Key 103 years before it was released properly. That's my favourite song in the world ever. And I've got Born in the New SA, which was the b-side to Heartland by The The which I also love. Most bizarrely, and probably rare because nobody else is daft enough to like it, I searched the internet for years to find a live recording of Come Up and See Me (Make Me Smile) by Duran Duran, which I had on tape when I was a kid (I think it was on the front of Select magazine). God knows why I like it so much, but I listen to it all the time.

When I get round to mp3-ing my Dad's Francois Hardy Sings in English LP, I'll be the proud owner of Only Friends, which is a lovely song.

No idea why - but as a kid I love the film 'The Rose' with Bette Midler and loved the music, so had the soundtrack. Loved how raw it was and even though I don't like her, she manges to make me love her in this film only. No idea why because I have not had a single thought about this film, or the music for a good 15+ years but something this weekend triggered a memory and I looked on itunes for two tracks in particular and down loaded them.

But I hate everything else she has ever done, and I only like the versions of these songs specifcally from the film, don't like any versions by anyone else either - they are defo the most odd things I have on my ipods!

US, I believe. It has the Warner Brothers logo on it. I assume NO is distributed in the UK by London Records. It also has only the 11 cuts.No bonus anything.
