Joy Divison: What if?

Ok, first thread folks, so be nice!

Me and a friend have just been to manchester to Temple bar and then 5th av. We where talking about the joy divison films that have been released and started to wonder: What if Ian Curtis didn't die?

Would joy division still be around today? How big would joy divison of got? Would New Order of started? Would we of had Blue Monday 88'? Would we of had bands like Oasis and Coldplay? Would we of had any bands that where influenced by the electro sound of New Order?

I know you can look too deeply into this and my personal reaction was that, you can't change the past. But it did get me thinking on the drive home.

Are New Order to blame for Coldplay and Oasis

No one knows what could have happened if Ian Curtis had not died. They could have turned out shite on the 3rd studio album (like Oasis). Tony Wilson did say if he had lived they (Joy Division) would have been bigger than U2.

What if Ian became an huge egotistical prick like Bono? What if Ian became more famous, he became a celebrity head case like Amy Winehouse? What if Joy Division started playing more mainstream arena rock? What if Bernard quit the band to start his own band? What if Ian went solo to get more attention and got really lame? What if Gillian never got to be in the band, would she have wound up a junky on the dole? What if Bernard OD'ed on heroin in 1985 and he became the martyr instead?
What if Ian went back in time in May 1980 to stop Hitler from getting the atomic bomb, and succeeded to save the world, but when he came back to the future he came back the day of his funeral, having found in this changed alternative universe that he had commited suicide?

Personally thinking, Joy Division would of been a worldwide re-nown band, as for New Order, we constantly have bands splitting up and wanting to go their own way, so, who knows, New Order could of existed along side Joy Division

I think, if that had happened, Blue Monday would not of been a dance track, but a rock track, just like Orgy's version of the track, Orgy, might of done it just like what New Order done it in 1983

Though if that was the case, I might of not like them, since it was the original Confusion release, which made me like their style of music. Which made me research into their past releases, hence here I am now
