This second article in the series refers to a tendancy to hold your hands slightly higher than would be the norm(approximately 15 cms higher) It was not so typically fashionable in the professional games as the 'thumbs up running' it's popularity was more on the school playing field. It's leading exponent was one Glen Hoddle and it was generally done when an attempt was made to play a slide-rule, side-foot pass with an anticipated maximum altitude of no more than 180 cms. It was generally copied by the school keepy-up whiz and if he'd also gone to the trouble of buying a pristine white Tottenham shirt, then I couldn't be held responsible for impersonating leading tough tackler Graeme Souness from time to time and if this coincided with English winter time and the likelyhood that it would be in close proximity to a muddy puddle.......
