Brighton

I have spent some time in Brighton over the last few months. I feel ambivalent about the place. Can anyone tell me what is the correct opinion to have about this coastal town?

I'd say that was pretty close to the mark. I might still act like a stew-dent but I don't eat no motherfucking tofu or consider a plateful of raw veg to be a suitable thing to include on a restaurant menu.

The Lanes are indeed very nice.

lived not far away years ago and went to the poly(now uni) as well,,love it ,, full of charactures as well as its fair share of tossers,, has interesting phone boxes,,nice seafront with jolly nice ,,(expensive) bars ,, restaurants round the lanes are groovy,, and mrs order likes the jewellry shops,, what else ,, first gig i took mrs order to at the centre 1986 ,,, new ordaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Quadrophenia was filmed there, so by my reckoning, it must be fabulous. I remember some amazing buildings and a pebbly beach from said film.

Though I did some years ago - maybe that's why I came back! Apart from The Lanes (which were lovely) it is/was just a run-down seaside town with seedy pubs one end of the town and trendy wine bars the other.....

It was a long time ago though, maybe it has been 'spruced' up a bit now.

Although the long shot of the pier in Quadrophenia is actually Eastbourne pier (some film buff told me)

I reckon all of those options apply at some point.

I've lived here for ten years now and sometimes love the bohemian, liberal feel down here. And then the next day I think everyone bar none is a complete cock.

The local music scene is good. But then you get people coming down to be seen on the scene.

There is a kind of Brightonian cynicism developing which, I think, stems from the fact that so many people think they're cool just because they live here.

Too many 4x4 drivers. The roads have become clogged. Brighton appears in about 1 in 5 (made up stats) films, adverts and TV shows.

It's like an amazing advert for something that when you get it isn't quite what you wanted it to be.

Very local to me have been pushed around by the Police a few times when Pompey have taken the place over for the footie always took between 5 and 10 thousand, we then always seemed to loose really badly.

Lovely pier which has pissed up karoke on a Sunday afternoon which can be good fum to watch a budding Neil Diamond

Really nice town, posher than Pompey should easily provide a good venue for a nice weekend and a mid night swim for those inclined. Used to be the abortion capital of the the Uk in the sixties and seventies for some reason i dont quite understand.

Was stuck at Gatwick for 3 days due to a hurricane in Cuba in october 2005. Stayed in shitty Crawley and was extremely bored so went down to Brighton for the day. Was fcukin freezin when we got there,bought misel a hoody n lot,an hour later it was fcukin red hot!

Loved the place,In fact i'd go as far to say it wqas netter than the holiday we had! will be defo havin a weekend there next summer
