The Observer will be giving away a copy of the film Local Hero on Sunday.

Local Hero is mainly set in the little village of Pennan. Pennan has a little pebbly beach, a famous red telephone box, a pub that never sells food and a strange association with the Happy Mondays.

Enjoy the film ;)

Peter Capaldi is a a legend.

Anyone who's witnessed his swearing in The Thick Of It will no doubt agree

I seem to remember there being some nice shots of the Northern Lights. There's also some bloke on a scooter who just keeps zooming up and down the street.

Great film.

It's a trial bike.

Really good film, Local Hero.

But as Scoe-tish films from the mid-80's go this was the daddy, wasn't it?

Have always loved this film, saw it upon its release in a small 'art' cinema with a few other souls who had seen Gregory's Girl earlier at the same place.

Yes.Managed to obtain a copy of the film with the Observer last Sunday.

Hmm.Wasn't sure if i'd ever seen it and can confirm i never did somehow. Will prob appreciate it better on a second watch.Beautifully shot but didn't take to the character Macintyre in a big way.

Er, why is it called Local Hero? Just asking like:)

Very evocative with the northern lights framed with the red phonebox though and funny with the bloke on the bike zooming up and down the street
