someone once called me a 'Marketers Dream' as i always buy a new release of a film if it has something worth having i.e. better extras, directors commentary etc,or Picture/sound upgrade.
i recently bought the Godfather trilogy for the 4th time in different incarnations, among others i recently bought T2 for the 6th time again.
which film do you own the most times?
Are you a sucker for an upgrade?
I keep buying new versions of Kubrick movies, so the blu-ray versions are my 3rd of many of these movies. I've bought Holy Grail and Life of Brian three times, well they actually improved the transfer eventually on these movies. Also Reservior Dogs three times (had a metal "gas can" case last time, what a sucker I am, same except for some pointless extras), still don't have the blu-ray yet. Want the blu-ray of Kill Bill, I know I'm not going to be able to resist getting the blu-rays of things I already have when they come out... I just like buying new things.
The most I've had is 3 copies of a film. T2,Trainspotting are ones that spring to mind.Bought them on VHS,VHS widescreen then DVD.
Ah tell a lie. BLADE RUNNER...VHS....VHS Director's Cut w/screen...Directors Cut DVD ..and finally the Final Cut Boxset!!
T2, Bloody Hell i've bought that film at least 6 times i can think of off the top of my head, Madness, and when they bring out a half good version On Blu-ray it'll be bought all over again to go with the bare bones copy i got the other week.
Apocalypse now i'm upto my 4th copy too, Transformers:the Movies (animated version) thats up there with T2 with at least 6 versions owned, one video and the rest DVD/Blu-ray,
Two, for a few, such as with the Lord Of The Rings issues, first with the two-disc set that came out first for each film, and then the subsequent four-disc set that seemed to arrive just before Christmas. There will be no more DVD purchases of that franchise by me, I seriously doubt there's any more "interesting " "bonus footage" that can be added to what's already there......but let's see what happens when the tenth anniversary of the first movie rolls around 
Don't actually own that many VHS films, and of those that I do, I'm in no hurry to replace many of those, seeing as how a lot of those titles have very crappy DVD issues (i.e. John Sayles' Matewan).
When available though, I'll almost always opt for the Criterion Collection for some titles (Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas, Withnail & I, Dazed & Confused, etc.) over any kind of regular release.
I have a bunch of legal pirated DVDs of movies I had on VHS... but unfortunately many of those movies just stopped playing right for some reason
I bought Blade Runner on VHS in about 1991 for about £4.99 in Wilkinsons in Southport. Watched it about 20 times.
Someone bought me a DVD box set thing with about 5 versions and a documentary. It's still in the box. Like my New Order and LFC DVDs. I never watch DVDs, apart from the odd snide one.
hmmm...not too many that I've ended up with more than one copy of...mainly just DVDs that are duplicates of VHS tapes...
there's Forrest Gump, Tombstone and then the original Star Wars Trilogy (actually, I think I have two copies of the SW stuff on VHS, then the DVDs..)

That was the first time it's ever been leaked out at the time of a first DVD release that an extended version was to come out. So I saved myself a few bob.
Not like FOX Video who would have you believe.oh STAR WARS deleted forever,quick buy it now....oh yeah sorry forgot to tell you we're bringing it out with new effects....oh what's that? Oh yeah we'll bring out the originals for those purists again.
i have about a dozen or so films on both vhs and dvd, just because i'm a compulsive hoarder and haven't got rid of the vids once they've been replaced.
the only thing i've replicated for geeky reasons is spaced - i bought the box set even though i already had the individual series dvds. the purchase itself made me feel a bit sick - i knew a line had been crossed. i felt sicker when i opened it up and it said something like 'well done for buying this box set even if you already had the individual series dvds, that's exactly the kind of thing a spaced fan would do.'
meaning that's exactly the kind of thing a big bloody geek would do.
they aren't exactly one film, but i have all 7 seasons of buffy and all 5 seasons of angel on DVD. i've seen all of them at least 3 times. surprised, anyone?
i'm about to buy my second copy of 24 hour party as i've lost my first one. :(
I usually own one of each. If I buy a copy with better bonus material or whatever, I try to give away the other one. But I have 2 DVD pairs where the one edition has other bonus than the other. So I can't give away that...
Er, I think my worst is two copies of Trainspotting and Withnail & I (both on DVD).
Actually, tell a lie... I've got the Japanese DVD of Trainspotting as well so three.
Both times it was the second disc of extras that enticed me to the new versions.
As for HD DVDs - they're going to make amazing beer coasters!
