I saw the first half hour. I was in a daze because i just swallowed sleeping pills, and had a glass of wine before it started. I did seem good and the the first scene with the twin towers was poignant. I never saw the British one. I expect the usual the british one is better thing, and that probably is true.
oh, and Lisa Bonnet is in it.
The US version? Life on Mars is British, isn't it? No need to dub or anything else, just to broadcast the thing...

Simm and Glenister had real chemistry together.
The American version has some great ideas. New York circa 1973 is a good setting. After all it was the time of Serpico.
Keitel as Gene is a good choice. Michael Imperoli as Carling is good.
What interests me is what happens after the producers run out of source material from The BBC version.
The BBC "LOM" is still definitive but the American version is not that bad. Sure is better than a lot of American TV I have seen lately.

When Jaime Murray (an ENGLISH actress playing an ENGLISH character) got a part in Dexter, she was made to see an accent coach (who was American) because she "didn't sound English enough"!! 
How is Keitel with the Hunt-isms then?
Is there an American equivalent of "You great… soft… sissy… girlie… nancy… French… bender… Man United supporting POOF!"

I watched the first 15mins of this. Seemed fairly faithful to the English script.
Not sure how the main two characters are gonna gel though. Don't think Keitel was half as impressive as Glenister, and also got the impression the American Sam Tyler could muller Keitel if he felt the need.
Did think Michael Emperioli looked the absolute bizness though. That moustache was class! Just a shame he was playing Ray, a character I never really warmed to.

Panel? I've not heard that in years! 
Sam and Gene had a few set-to's, didn't they? Always fairly even-stevens though from what I remember.
That American Tyler just towers over Keitel though. 
I was initially intrigued by this but, like I said, watched just 15mins cos I felt like I'd seen it all before. Er, which I had.

You think that Keitel should just be a bitter old actor saying fuck Hollywood, proving his artistic integrity by doing nothing, not taking on new challenges. Save his money, sit on the porch all day drinking cans of beer and cussing at the kids who walk near his lawn or are on skateboard? Keitel is not allowed to continue his career in different ways as he gets older? He should do nothing so as to not "spoil" his role in Mean Streets to appease obsessed fans? Is that your arguement?
Political correctness... Irony? Do you understand irony? Satire? British shows usually understand these better than American shows, I have not seen them both so I dunno how they compare. Keitel does seem kinda old for the role, but he is cool as hell so they signed him up. It is a rare TV role, at least Keitel is trying new things. If it fails, it fails. thats life. Maybe he should really sell out and do only voice work for Disney, maybe be the voice of Scrooge McDuck.

I suggest you should kidnap Keitel and lock him naked in your bathroom until he promises not to work TV. Use that chloroform (CHCl3) stuff, it always works on TV, and handcuff him to your radiator or bathtub. Make him watch only recent Oscar winning Scorsese films to make him suffer. I quite watching it after the episode of the gay soldier... he was married and had a son, but tried to have his relationship stateside with his captian (and his captian beat the crap outta him)... the thought was stupid, but what made it worse was how the main charactor was telling his wife and son that he died a hero because was fighting in what he believed in and was sooo brave. 
Because it would have been so much better to tell the young son and his grieving mother that his father was killed because he was queer?
