I have six of their 500GB 3.5 inch drives, so I'd expect their little bus-powered 2.5 inch ones to be pretty good too. My 2.5 inch one is a 320GB Western Digital Passport, bought out of necessity....I don't trust WD at ALL.

3.5 inches?

I've got at least double that here.

£40 sounds about right.

The cheapest route is to buy a laptop harddrive (preferably Toshiba-best quality for lowest price), and a hardrive case.

pros - inexpensive, runs off the power of your computer (no need to plug into the wall), small and portable

cons - transfers a bit slower than one that plugs in the wall when cut/pasting very large items (but I've never had any issues with this)

The drive, yes. The source, no.

OCUK, cheaper, clueful support, and the stuff turns up on time (usually the day before you pick when ordering).

rick

I only showed ebay as an example... many other places to find good deals...

i've gone for both, sorting out a friend too,

EdelBrock, i have gone for the hard drive/case combo thingy for myself, nothing to register or overly complicated to set up and will work fine with me toshiba laptop, i'm getting from a local shop instead, saved a ton of money but my mate wasn't so sure

thanks,

You're lucky... in America we don't take kindly to strangers who need an external drive, we would shoot you for sure. :brow:

Could you just stand next to a children's hospital? Much easier to hit:laugh: :ignore:

As a result of being utterly shit, Edge Hill Uni gave me a 500gb hard drive a couple of weeks ago.

It spent a weekend with Alex, and is now almost full.

I've filled 6 500GB's and a 1TB, and no, not with porn. TV shows, F1 and backups mainly (270GB of Dr Who as well BTW :D )

But then I FEAR the delete key, feeling that once pressed, I will instantly want to see/hear whatever it was that just squirted out the serial port into the waste bit bucket.
