Well it IS standard practice for your tech to swap your guitars, plug them up, keep them in tune etc (not least because techs, unlike musos, comprehend the concept of muting the fucking amp before yanking a jack lead out of a guitar, particularly an active one).

However, I am genuinely shocked at how little he knows his own fx rig, and worse, his instruments. FFS like, I've had dozens of bits of infinitely more complex kit over the years and can make any and all (excl Yamaha) of it eat from the palm of my hand, and worse...eg....I could write a patch for a CZ synth, that I have not used in ten years, on paper, AND tell you what it would sound like....AND I AM A TWAT IN A BEDROOM WHO ONLY THINKS HE'S TALENTED, NOT A MULTINATIONAL HYPERSTAR!!!!!!!

What's this here infinite guitar then? One with an E-bow built in? Or is it just any ordinary guitar with a clever reverb/sample+hold program?

I'm thinking INFINITE BASS!!!!!!!!

BTW....the magic retuning guitar? Guitar with a shifter built in more like. Knock it into open-D tuning and play sloppily and see what horrors ensue (wrong strings bound to get wrong shift because of pickup spill.)

I always had visions of the "Infinite Guitar" as being this plectrum-thing that you hold to the strings and it vibrates it. Didn't know it was a whole custom-built guitar.

It's nothing new for New Order (and their fans) to take swipes at U2. I always wondered if NO was jealous of U2's popularity......They are similar bands in a lot of ways, just U2 is on a much grander scale. And they're religious.

Me thinks NO could have that popularity if they really wanted it. They could never be so pompous. I see more of comparison between early U2 and JD then NO.

And FYI U2 never worked with Hannett....Steve Lillywhite produced their first three albums.

Good to see you making some contributions on NOOL again-there is also a rare as fuck EP called U2-3 put out by CBS which had a song called A Celebration produced by Hannett which only ever saw the light of day again on some Hannett tribute albums.

I had no idea Hannett produced 11 O'Clock Tick Tock.....That's an awfully obscure track....It wasn't on any album and it was very early in their career.

I think U2 was great from 80-84, and 91-97....The Joshua Tree is decent, but maybe the most overrated album in the history of the planet. I think War and Unforgettable Fire are much better, with UF being sort of a precursor to JT.

And yes, I know U2 were huge JD fans and you can definitely hear similarities in their sounds....However, when U2 went electronic in the 90s, I couldn't help but think New Order when listening to some stuff off of Achtung Baby, Zooropa, and Pop.......

Edge is certainly no Joe Satriani, but he did create a unique signature sound which is distinctive and at times very powerful......I still get chills when I hear that riff from Pride In the Name Of Love.

I think the main reason why U2 gets shitted on so much is both the fact that they are beyond commercially successful, but on top of that, they are just not cool. Bono wants to save the world and frequently meets with world leaders to spread his peace agenda, which is admirable, but not really held in high regard with the "hipsters" of this world that love New Order so much. Plus the whole spirituality thing is very easy to pick apart, as I remember Barney and Hooky making fun of Bono's zealous nature in a late 80s interview. On top of that, U2s music, at least for the past decade, has been pretty watered down. Yeah, Vertigo rocked, but for the most part, the past 2 albums have been soft. Soft and kind of bland. But man did they sell!! While U2 are the most popular band in the world, they're just not cool enough for the kids....at least not like Joy Division, New Order, and the countless 80s New Wave retro bands that emerged during the past few years.
