Some cracking new photies of the new film on the official website. All looking proper retro and faithful to the old series bar Chris Pine's (Kirk) BLACK shirt. What's that all about? Got to be Gold!

Rumour has it Simon Pegg plays 'Scotty' in this..

It's all a bit cloak and dagger at the mo...but it'll all come out in the wash...

Voyager and Enterprise pretty much killed Star Trek off for me. The Original series was a real groundbreaker (after Dr Who of COURSE). TNG was largely fabulous. DS9 was crap buy had excellent characters well played.

BUT, by the time they got to Voyager, they'd dropped any and all pretence of sci fi. They just took old scripts from Dawson's Creek and Murder She Wrote[1] and Bold and Beautiful.....and then got a PERL script to randomly place the word tachyon every 12 lines.

It wasn't helped that I discovered Babylon5 at the same time as voyager was on telly......do I watch an excellent show with great science fiction thought in it, wonderful characters and a plot that holds self consistency over 5 years.....or do I spend 43 minutes watching Neelix cry because Kes doesn't love him any more?

Tough choice.

What FINALLY killed it for me was the episode of Enterprise (it's a wonder I every made it through those cancerous titles to see any of it)....entirely about the captain's dog being sick. Now, if the Borg wanna turn up and assimilate Rolf Harris while he's telling us about fluffy's sore paw....then that's fair play, but until then...NO.....If I wish to watch a soap I'd put eastfuckingenders on.....If I wanted to watch dying animals, I would put Rolf or Vets-In-Competence on.....but I chose to watch a show about the imagined human future and our ultimate exploration of the rest of our galaxy...I CALL SHENANIGANS!!!!!!!!

[1] Clearly not those written by JMS!

Hang on.

This is set aboard USS Enterprise? Some considerable time (from the ages) before the original series?

Then surely Chris Pine is playing Chris Pike, who was master and commander of that vessel right up until the start of the Five Year Mission commanded by James Tiberious Kirk?

The events in The Cage were, I believe dated 2 years before Kirk took command, allowing for time to return to Earth, and time for the extensive refit the vessel underwent, it leaves about enough time for this lot to get to about Mars and back at warp 8 (emergency only on Constitution class vessels).

This is another thing that pissed me off. Trekkies ejaculate over the wonderful timeline, consistency and harmonious universe of Trek, but really it is even less consistent than Dr Who (which can be TRAGIC...Destiny of the Daleks anyone?...."two robot races at war",,,WHAT?).

She didn't, she commanded Voyager, a mere intersellar PBY. Besides, Janeway was one of the better things about voyager, first officer elvis and his mystic native american ways, hairy quim missing his mummy, never mind kes and fucking spastix....they were the problem.

Kirk, at least woulda fucked Kes (dammit spock, I don't care if she's only 3, look at her ass), the beamed her into space so I could sit in the ob deck, skin up and watch the wee whore suck vacum down.

ENTERPRISE looked good on paper. What a great time to set it than at the beginning, when Starfleet were non-pc,shoot first-ask questions later (more action, less talk of "let's create a subspace field around it"). But it was that annoying Vulcan woman. You couldn't decide whether to "stun" her or give her a Vulcan neck-pinch.

New film looks great. Click on my link and then click on GALLERY and there's some top photos on there.Check out 2nd picture,Simon Pegg's expression is a killer. 3rd picture is the villain of the piece, played by Eric Bana (Chopper/The Hulk)

The character of Captain Pike appears in the film too,but I don't think the story mirrors The Cage.

SPOILER ALERT..............

There may be an appearance of Leonard Nimoy who may or may not travel back in time to visit his younger self. I hope they don't bloody kill him off too!

No, no, no, no NO!!!

This should not be happening!

Pegg as Scotty? My ass!

JJ 'Look how fucked up Lost is' Abrahams as Director type person Agh!!!

A return to prequelville after the pile of faecal emanants that was 'Enterprise'???

Tampering with a classic that should not be touched- Insanity!

ST should take another 5 years off, then come back with a Secret Service Section 59 (I think that's what the ST:MI5 was called) series.

This. film. will. be. awful.

P.S. Cambo; DS9 was pants to start with, but series 6 and 7 kick ass!

I haven't been this excited about an upcoming movie since The Phantom Menace!

her...

...hang on...

...that's not exactly a good omen, is it?:skeptic:

On a more serious note, I have a lot of faith on this. All I've seen or read so far tell me that JJ & Co. have gone to great lenghts to ensure "Star Trek" (that's the title, not "The Wrath of Nero" or "Another voyage home" :D ) WILL be awesome.

As for the plot...

SPOILERS- AVOID AT ALL COST!

Sometime in the 24th century, Nero, a bald, tattooed, Darth Maul-meets-Shinzon romulan realizes that the late James Tiberius Kirk, that pesky Starfleet captain who died a miserable death at the hands of Berman & Braga, is the sole responsible for the lack of success in the Romulan Star Empire's plans for conquering the galaxy. So he quickly devises a plan to eliminate the human (wait... isn't he dead already?) AND change history as we know it:

travel back in time and KILL Kirk BEFORE he becomes Starfleet's hero!

But Spock, Kirk's faithful sidekick, who is pretty much alive in the 24th century, thanks to Hollywood's plastic surgeons, sorry, I meant vulcans' loooooong lifespan, comes to the rescue...

I'm with you on the new movie. But I am diametically opposed to your view on DS9. I thought it peaked in the latter half of series 3 and most of 4. 5 stank at times and rocked at others, but it started trying to be something else in latter 5-7, I never have worked out if they were trying to be more like Babylon 5 with big story arcs, or if they were trying to make it into a perfectly ordinary soap opera with back projections and masks. Don't get me wrong, 6 and 7 contained some of the most mightiest of treck moments.....but they were bollox deep in whiney sentimental pish, and while the pishmistress general was Esrie fucking Dax, they made EVERY character whiney and annoying, or shifty and psychotic before the end. The Dax thing was bad, Jadzia bothered me because they used her to do the techlish-to-trailerish-translations CONSTANTLY......."we could put a subspace bubble around the ship to minimize friction from the dust could"...."Ahhh like lubing up a dildo before you stuff it in your ass"......that sort of thing. Esrie on the other hand was a whining fucktard who was seriously stealing life support from more useful station lifeforms, especially since the clueless cow, if I recall correctly, stayed as science officer at least for a while. They even made Sisco crap at times in the end, even though he'd previously handled all sorts of slushshite scenes with Jake with some modicum of dignity.

I had forgotten BTW, that this was being made by "Mr see how lon you can string these muppets out for before they can all see the Emperor's atrophied little cock." Did he make Heroes too? Cos the more of it I see, the more like Lost it becomes, WTF is wrong with these people. /rant

He can't act for shit, he really pisses me off. He's playing Klaatu? Good $DEITY!

And I can just imagine how they'll leave the core of the film intact.

The whole point of the original is that we are primitive, violent retards with no place in decent galactic society.

The new one will be all about how Klaatu needs us to show his people how to blow up terrorists because they voted democrat and became pussies, or something equally propogandist. Gort will be a cute robot dog, and Klaatu will adopt a human orphan, of ethnic minority origin. It will more closely resemble a brain damaged take on The Man Who Fell To Earth, than the original film. I cannot wrap my head around this style of remake, the point of a remake, to my limited mind, is to take another crack at a story with more modern production values and maybe some different takes on how characters are played. But to Follywood it means using "The Brand" to sell some same old same old, with only a very few exceptions. Have you SEE Death Race? OMG, if EVER there was a case for just re-doing the film with a budget of more than $300, surely this was it....the original was a fabulous movie with tons to say, and completely shite looking. The new one looks great, says fuck all about fuck all, and barely makes any sense.

Oh and "trek has survived shite"??????? Have I missed a series that followed Enterballs?

lol well i was refering to the trek films rather than the tv series doc. as for tdtess, you r pretty close on all the points u made, this time round klatau is a ecofriendly alien whos come to tell us to clean up our act (maybe they should have asked al gore to play klatau). unbelivably GORT very nearly didnt make it into the film and it was a last minute reprieve after fans kicked off an the studio shat themselves. the producers however cant just leave the fuck alone apparently ,gort will disasemble into tiny nanobots to destroy things????. and YES we have our ethnic element in there to in the role of a halfcast kid that befriends klatau, (er your not secretly the producer on this r u?)lol and as a final popcorn choker its not keanu that steps out of the craft but an alien form?,from which if rumours r to be belived looks like kang n kodo from the simpsons and only transforms into human form once it gets shot? sigh,i will go an watch though ,if only to sit at the back and boooo.

It's a trick I learned from the Party, you know our leaders, the govt. of Oceania.

It works like this......think of the WORST, most inbred, retarded thing possible....and that'll be what happens.

Works just the same for bombing countries and remaking classic movies.

As you can see, I basically deduced the entire remake of TDTESS simply by thinking "what's the worst, most degrading rape that could be perpetrated against this movie by some semi-literate sisterfucker".

Try it, it works. Obviously you need to start with something really easy and obvious, like US foreign policy.

Being a Star Trek Fan myself (Classic Series and NG), I'll refuse to support any further attempt of the film industry to keep the Star Trek money-machine going. With the end of NG Star Trek is over for me once and for all.

Did I see a shot in the tralier of a starship being built in the desert? If it is, it shows that those responsible are not only imbelices, but have never seen a single episode of Star Trek. Enterprise and all her kin were built in orbit, as all large space vessels will have to be...they are creatures of the void, children of the vacum, they would die in the presence of gravity. I mean, forget sci-fi, let's talk basic engineering.....with the secondary hull (engineering section) sitting on the ground, the strains on both the engine naceles and the link between the primary and secondary hull, while they would be minute compared to those imparted by the vessel's drive, are in the wrong plain, and do not have the benefit of bullshit structural integrity fields and inertial dampers to keep them from crumbling. Isn't Voyager's Intrepid Class ship repeatedly referred to as the largest starfleet vessel which can do a planetary landing?

Oh, and how come the inside of Enterprise looks, not like it did in the series (lots of colour) but like it did after it's boring 1970's refit (after the 5 year mission).

TIP: When your bread and butter is depending on geeks, try not to laugh in their faces.

Which are not in Frisco but in orbit, as mentioned here and there. Enterprise D and Defiant are listed as being built at Utopia Planitia, but again, in Mars orbit, not the surface. The orbital construction of the ships was one of the few bits of Trek that made any sense....so....best get rid of that then.....sigh. I'm sure the local Enviro-mentalists wouldn't mind one bit about a warp core being fired up just down the road (at impulse speeds a low-level warp field is used to reduce inertial mass or it will barely budge)....cos trust me, that thing isn't taking off on it's RCS any more than the space shittle does.

I hate it when they try to "broaden the appeal" of sci fi.....it just makes it moron friendly......and half the reason sci fi geeks like sci fi is that they hate moronic stories :banghead:

How do you know? There's no on-screen evidence of that. Yes, in TMP we get see the Connie refit in drydock, but fully prepared and ready to go. And why would an orbital facility be christened after an earth city? What next? The Cheshire Moon Complex?

Well, I dunno, maybe you're right, but I was certain I've read the SF yards were just named so out of tradition.....I mean Utopia Planitia is on the Martian surface and it is specifically mentioned in TNG and DS9 that ships are built in orbit above that.

Is that the plate from the original series? Odd, when it was made, it seems they'd not yet decided she was Constitution class.

BTW....having looked at that pic, I think it's less likely they've made SF FLAT by the 23rd century ;)

Maybe the ship is built by union workers on Earth, as required by Federation of Planets by law, then assembled in space? Damn liberals!

As the good Doctor pointed out, it would be retarded to build the ship on Earth for any reason you could think of. The idea of a large spaceship colony that only ever orbited was one of the basic good ideas to start the show in the beginning.

I wonder how they will present the back story of Earth and the inhabitated planets/cultures that make up the Federation of Planets and the surrounding area. The original concept of the Star Trek universe (from like 1964-66) from the two pilots and first season is a good science fiction concept. Maybe crude and naive, but still impresses me more than 40 years later, at least what they were trying to do, for a broadcast network TV show no less.

The original concept faded over the years until Voyager when the concept was to basically drive thru space aimlessly like some arrogant purposeless cowboys. I gave up on Enterprise very quickly, I still can't believe how Earth built their first absurdly expensive interstellar spaceship to have some hick drive around the universe aimlessly to see whatever they find, with no specified scientific or political purpose other than to show how superior humans are. Every episode I saw, the captain practically caused the destruction of the Enterprise based on showing some human prinicple cause that is what we are all about, arrogant idiots I guess.

I bailed on Enterprise after seeing an episode about the Captain's dog being sick (over which, as you say, he was willing to risk the lives of his ship and crew).

There are already programs about sick dogs. If I wished to enjoy the suffering of innocent animals I would watch those. When Rolf Harris is overseeing an operation on a Klingon targ, then we can have sick dogs in Trek. It's the same with all the "soapyness" that crept in, even in later TNG episodes.....I watch sci fi cos I do not like soaps, so if you turn all the sci fi into soap, WTF will I be able to watch......retarded network thinking always destroys and homongenises.

Trek started with stories by sci-fi authors, which were then sanitized for a mass tv audience. But it eventually became a case of any old writer or any old Murder She Wrote script could be used, and then peppered with techspeak (which in the absence of plot context is just gibberish).

I've always had a mental battle between my desire to see a series like Clarke's Rama books made into movies, and the knowledge of the rape that would be perpetrated against such a classic (need I mention my fatwa against a certain short arsed scientologist for his destruction of THE sci-fi book).

Having read a few reports on some movie scenes shown by JJ Abrams to the international media (sadly no NOOL hack was invited...), I can assure you that the NCC-1701 was built in the

Riverside Fleetyards, Iowa

Don't believe me? Read this

or if you don't wanna run through it all, here's the quote:

Kirk sees USS Enterprise NCC - 1701 being built (in Iowa) (DETAIL: Federation flag on building in distance) (CANON ALERT: Not being build in "San Francisco, CALIF.")

From wikipedia......... "According to The Making of Star Trek by Gene Roddenberry and Stephen E. Whitfield, the components of the Enterprise were built at the San Francisco Navy Yards and the vessel itself was constructed in space."

Dunno why this geezer Roddenberry thinks he knows so much?

Oh, and from StarTrek.com

"Launched in 2245, the original and illustrious starship U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 was built in the San Francisco Yards orbiting Earth."

Thank fuck for that, I thought I was losing my marbles.......that something had become "un-written" in the best Orwellian tradition. Thankfully the reality is that the new film has been made by people who have never seen star trek.....sigh, just like war of the worlds was made by people who'd never read the book.....or ANY book judging by the pile of rotting corpses that the film is (instead of SHOWING).

EDIT: It may be argued that worrying about how and where a ficticious, future vessel is/was/will-be constructed is not the act of one in posession of the full complement of marbles.....but only by people who want gobbed! ;)

I will reluctantly confess to being a secret Trekker once upon a time (it was rural Scotland... what else was I meant to do? Smack?) but the prospect of this new film has definitely not succeeded in "re-energizing" my interest in the franchise, Jim.

I was a big fan of TNG and Deep Space Nine with the latter being my personal favourite of the bunch. Over the course of seven years DS9 turned the notion of "safe PC Trek" on it's head and took a few risks. It unfortunately - like TNG - looks quite dated now but it tackled quite a few hot potatoes (race, sexuality, war, religion etc) well enough to make it addictive viewing. I liked the idea the main characters had a slew of skeletons in their closet and were basically not perfect, something which TNG was frequently a bit irritating about. Plus I fancied Dax  even the shorter one they replaced Terry Farrell with in the final season :food:

Voyager was utter garbage and as Doc pointed out little more than a soap opera which happened to be set in space. Seven years of that nonsense finished off the "90s" Star Trek as it stood and left the not-that-bad Enterprise on shaky ground; no wonder it tanked after four years... when it was cancelled I remember thinking I would've far preferred seven years of T'Pol in that jumpsuit and proper sci-fi stories over Mulgrew's slapped-arse face any day.

Yeah, Voyager really was the worst thing that could've happened to Star Trek. Such a cynical show as well.. any time the ratings dropped they just clumsily inserted a Borg storyline hoping it would bring in the viewing figures. Fcuk all originality or creativity.

Mind you, if this new film manages to make Star Trek "sexy" even for even a nano-second I'll eat my phaser

The Sylar bloke from Heroes will bring in a lot of punters straight away I would imagine?

I'll watch it of course but it'll probably be uTorrent over cinema ticket.
