Some cracking new photies of the new film on the official website. All looking proper retro and faithful to the old series bar Chris Pine's (Kirk) BLACK shirt. What's that all about? Got to be Gold!
STAR TREK

Rumour has it Simon Pegg plays 'Scotty' in this..
It's all a bit cloak and dagger at the mo...but it'll all come out in the wash...![]()
Voyager and Enterprise pretty much killed Star Trek off for me. The Original series was a real groundbreaker (after Dr Who of COURSE). TNG was largely fabulous. DS9 was crap buy had excellent characters well played.
BUT, by the time they got to Voyager, they'd dropped any and all pretence of sci fi. They just took old scripts from Dawson's Creek and Murder She Wrote[1] and Bold and Beautiful.....and then got a PERL script to randomly place the word tachyon every 12 lines.
It wasn't helped that I discovered Babylon5 at the same time as voyager was on telly......do I watch an excellent show with great science fiction thought in it, wonderful characters and a plot that holds self consistency over 5 years.....or do I spend 43 minutes watching Neelix cry because Kes doesn't love him any more?
Tough choice.
What FINALLY killed it for me was the episode of Enterprise (it's a wonder I every made it through those cancerous titles to see any of it)....entirely about the captain's dog being sick. Now, if the Borg wanna turn up and assimilate Rolf Harris while he's telling us about fluffy's sore paw....then that's fair play, but until then...NO.....If I wish to watch a soap I'd put eastfuckingenders on.....If I wanted to watch dying animals, I would put Rolf or Vets-In-Competence on.....but I chose to watch a show about the imagined human future and our ultimate exploration of the rest of our galaxy...I CALL SHENANIGANS!!!!!!!!
[1] Clearly not those written by JMS!
Hang on.
This is set aboard USS Enterprise? Some considerable time (from the ages) before the original series?
Then surely Chris Pine is playing Chris Pike, who was master and commander of that vessel right up until the start of the Five Year Mission commanded by James Tiberious Kirk?
The events in The Cage were, I believe dated 2 years before Kirk took command, allowing for time to return to Earth, and time for the extensive refit the vessel underwent, it leaves about enough time for this lot to get to about Mars and back at warp 8 (emergency only on Constitution class vessels).
This is another thing that pissed me off. Trekkies ejaculate over the wonderful timeline, consistency and harmonious universe of Trek, but really it is even less consistent than Dr Who (which can be TRAGIC...Destiny of the Daleks anyone?...."two robot races at war",,,WHAT?).
God yer a nerd Cambo.![]()
What killed Star Trek... we went from a womanizing captian a woman captian, that's what. No woman should command the Enterprise, the Enterprise should command her![]()

She didn't, she commanded Voyager, a mere intersellar PBY. Besides, Janeway was one of the better things about voyager, first officer elvis and his mystic native american ways, hairy quim missing his mummy, never mind kes and fucking spastix....they were the problem.
Kirk, at least woulda fucked Kes (dammit spock, I don't care if she's only 3, look at her ass), the beamed her into space so I could sit in the ob deck, skin up and watch the wee whore suck vacum down.
ENTERPRISE looked good on paper. What a great time to set it than at the beginning, when Starfleet were non-pc,shoot first-ask questions later (more action, less talk of "let's create a subspace field around it"). But it was that annoying Vulcan woman. You couldn't decide whether to "stun" her or give her a Vulcan neck-pinch.
New film looks great. Click on my link and then click on GALLERY and there's some top photos on there.Check out 2nd picture,Simon Pegg's expression is a killer. 3rd picture is the villain of the piece, played by Eric Bana (Chopper/The Hulk)
The character of Captain Pike appears in the film too,but I don't think the story mirrors The Cage.
SPOILER ALERT..............
There may be an appearance of Leonard Nimoy who may or may not travel back in time to visit his younger self. I hope they don't bloody kill him off too!
great lookin photo's Monty
though did a double take when I thought I'd read the USS KEVIN
mind you USS KELVIN sounds like some fella otta Musical Yoof or somesuch.
shoulda gone to specsavers

No, no, no, no NO!!!
This should not be happening!
Pegg as Scotty? My ass!
JJ 'Look how fucked up Lost is' Abrahams as Director type person Agh!!!
A return to prequelville after the pile of faecal emanants that was 'Enterprise'???
Tampering with a classic that should not be touched- Insanity!
ST should take another 5 years off, then come back with a Secret Service Section 59 (I think that's what the ST:MI5 was called) series.
This. film. will. be. awful.
P.S. Cambo; DS9 was pants to start with, but series 6 and 7 kick ass!

I haven't been this excited about an upcoming movie since The Phantom Menace!
her...
...hang on...
...that's not exactly a good omen, is it?![]()
On a more serious note, I have a lot of faith on this. All I've seen or read so far tell me that JJ & Co. have gone to great lenghts to ensure "Star Trek" (that's the title, not "The Wrath of Nero" or "Another voyage home" :D ) WILL be awesome.
As for the plot...
SPOILERS- AVOID AT ALL COST!
Sometime in the 24th century, Nero, a bald, tattooed, Darth Maul-meets-Shinzon romulan realizes that the late James Tiberius Kirk, that pesky Starfleet captain who died a miserable death at the hands of Berman & Braga, is the sole responsible for the lack of success in the Romulan Star Empire's plans for conquering the galaxy. So he quickly devises a plan to eliminate the human (wait... isn't he dead already?) AND change history as we know it:
travel back in time and KILL Kirk BEFORE he becomes Starfleet's hero!
But Spock, Kirk's faithful sidekick, who is pretty much alive in the 24th century, thanks to Hollywood's plastic surgeons, sorry, I meant vulcans' loooooong lifespan, comes to the rescue...

There's always a "Kelvin" in JJ Abrahams' movies. His late grand-father was named Kelvin. Of course, you can always say the ship is named after the temperature guy...

I'm with you on the new movie. But I am diametically opposed to your view on DS9. I thought it peaked in the latter half of series 3 and most of 4. 5 stank at times and rocked at others, but it started trying to be something else in latter 5-7, I never have worked out if they were trying to be more like Babylon 5 with big story arcs, or if they were trying to make it into a perfectly ordinary soap opera with back projections and masks. Don't get me wrong, 6 and 7 contained some of the most mightiest of treck moments.....but they were bollox deep in whiney sentimental pish, and while the pishmistress general was Esrie fucking Dax, they made EVERY character whiney and annoying, or shifty and psychotic before the end. The Dax thing was bad, Jadzia bothered me because they used her to do the techlish-to-trailerish-translations CONSTANTLY......."we could put a subspace bubble around the ship to minimize friction from the dust could"...."Ahhh like lubing up a dildo before you stuff it in your ass"......that sort of thing. Esrie on the other hand was a whining fucktard who was seriously stealing life support from more useful station lifeforms, especially since the clueless cow, if I recall correctly, stayed as science officer at least for a while. They even made Sisco crap at times in the end, even though he'd previously handled all sorts of slushshite scenes with Jake with some modicum of dignity.
I had forgotten BTW, that this was being made by "Mr see how lon you can string these muppets out for before they can all see the Emperor's atrophied little cock." Did he make Heroes too? Cos the more of it I see, the more like Lost it becomes, WTF is wrong with these people. /rant
i firmly belive that this film we be a pile of shite, but star trek has survived the pos syndrome before and shall again hopefully. the new re-make of the day the earth stood still however will bury a classic forever i fear, sigh :(.

Ooh dunno, the trailers are looking pretty good on it so far,a return back for Keanu after that shite "I've-just-lost-1hr-and-a-half-of-my-life" film CONSTANTINE.

He can't act for shit, he really pisses me off. He's playing Klaatu? Good $DEITY!
And I can just imagine how they'll leave the core of the film intact.
The whole point of the original is that we are primitive, violent retards with no place in decent galactic society.
The new one will be all about how Klaatu needs us to show his people how to blow up terrorists because they voted democrat and became pussies, or something equally propogandist. Gort will be a cute robot dog, and Klaatu will adopt a human orphan, of ethnic minority origin. It will more closely resemble a brain damaged take on The Man Who Fell To Earth, than the original film. I cannot wrap my head around this style of remake, the point of a remake, to my limited mind, is to take another crack at a story with more modern production values and maybe some different takes on how characters are played. But to Follywood it means using "The Brand" to sell some same old same old, with only a very few exceptions. Have you SEE Death Race? OMG, if EVER there was a case for just re-doing the film with a budget of more than $300, surely this was it....the original was a fabulous movie with tons to say, and completely shite looking. The new one looks great, says fuck all about fuck all, and barely makes any sense.
Oh and "trek has survived shite"??????? Have I missed a series that followed Enterballs?
lol well i was refering to the trek films rather than the tv series doc. as for tdtess, you r pretty close on all the points u made, this time round klatau is a ecofriendly alien whos come to tell us to clean up our act (maybe they should have asked al gore to play klatau). unbelivably GORT very nearly didnt make it into the film and it was a last minute reprieve after fans kicked off an the studio shat themselves. the producers however cant just leave the fuck alone apparently ,gort will disasemble into tiny nanobots to destroy things????. and YES we have our ethnic element in there to in the role of a halfcast kid that befriends klatau, (er your not secretly the producer on this r u?)lol and as a final popcorn choker its not keanu that steps out of the craft but an alien form?,from which if rumours r to be belived looks like kang n kodo from the simpsons and only transforms into human form once it gets shot? sigh,i will go an watch though ,if only to sit at the back and boooo.
It's a trick I learned from the Party, you know our leaders, the govt. of Oceania.
It works like this......think of the WORST, most inbred, retarded thing possible....and that'll be what happens.
Works just the same for bombing countries and remaking classic movies.
As you can see, I basically deduced the entire remake of TDTESS simply by thinking "what's the worst, most degrading rape that could be perpetrated against this movie by some semi-literate sisterfucker".
Try it, it works. Obviously you need to start with something really easy and obvious, like US foreign policy.
Being a Star Trek Fan myself (Classic Series and NG), I'll refuse to support any further attempt of the film industry to keep the Star Trek money-machine going. With the end of NG Star Trek is over for me once and for all.
Live long and prosper!
I'm surprised by your comments, people. I don't know if the new movie will be the best SF movie ever, or just a pile of horse's s**t, but I'm willing to at least give it a chance...
Oh, by the way, when it comes to Star Trek, I'm a TOS man. Never liked TNG and all the other bulls**t Berman & Braga did...
It's official....The Doctor has melted me mind with his comments on this thread...I've read them through twice now and still not got a scooby what he's on 'bout....![]()

That's probably for the best really. They make perfect sense to me, and I'm a looney.

He did, for 7 years and 3 movies :D
Of course only Sisco got to be the real deal.
