Manchester has produced a lot of dross at times, even Factory was a mixed bag. Overall though compared with other cities it should probably take poll position. It has run out of ideas a bit of late though.

Im ashamed to say though that I have regularly enjoyed listening to Simply red remixes on several occassions.

Anyway - although not by much I would always say NO from Smiths by a whisker.

Can any other city (even London) boast a similarly impressive array of talent?

london hasn't done badly, & you can't dismiss liverpool either

Though my personal love is NO, I'd say The Smiths had more impact on future bands...

Doves for current bands though.
