Kanye West 808s N Heartbreaks

Damn surprisingly good record! "Paranoid" and "Streetlights" has elements reminiscent of New Order. Read the allmusic review for a New Order mention! He completely sings the whole time on auto-tune software. But his 808 drum beats and overall style of the album has a sound that at times recalls 80s New Wave, and I really like this record and urge everyone on this board to get it.

Just heard on the radio the Killers next single followed by Kanye's next single.Kanye's song is easily better.But that's not hard.The Killers single is a b side at best.In fact not even that.Dreadful.Absolutely dreadful.

Did like some of the sounds on Kanye's Love Lockdown single.

It's nice to see a statement that is both racist AND played out, well done twat!

Kanye's vision actually is to break racial barriers and he cites Gary Numan as an influence in this album.

You know that not liking Hip Hop ! Not liking black music, right? (that's the computer sense of !, ie, is not equal to).

Half the music we all listen to, including New Order, is vastly shaped by African influences.

Personally, I actually like instrumental HipHop stuff, and can deal with the ocassional rapper. I just find it hard to listen to the shouty-posturing-halfwit-ali-G-lookalikes.

Much as I'd like to further swing from NH's chain (as is my way).....I'd have to say that I often find the little bits of Kanye that reach my ears to be far from unpleasant, even when he's not stealing from DaftPunk.

In a sense all music is "black music", those chaps DID invent the first drums and hold the first all-night-off-your-napper-parties.....when there wasn't even any such thing as pink people (or pale blue).

I still cannot wrap my head around this idea that the use of an 808 is somehow a departure from hiphop. It's like Metallica saying "yeah, we wanna stay away from the whole rock vibe on this album, so we're using electric guitars, loads of distortion and huge amps".

Whatever. That being said, I don't think music has a skin colour or race. Just because I don't like hiphop/r&b/rap (or musicians that make such music) doesn't make me racist (or anyone else for that matter; I don't listen to that genre because it doesn't interest me and I don't find the genre itself appealing).

And just because he's done something a bit different from all the other people in the genre doesn't make me want to listen to it, either. 80's New Wave? NO and DM aren't 'new wave'
