A knighthood for riding a bike? An MBE for winning ONE WDC?

Jesus, it's getting awfully easy to get an award isn't it.

Now if Mr Hoy went on to bag some more gold's in the next olypmics, and did wonders for promoting cycling...maybe.

And Mr Hamilton should really have a few more WDC's under his belt and have done some serious work on the promotion of motorsport to the young etc etc before he deserves anything.

If anyone involved in Lewis' victory deserves an award it's Ron Dennis, 30 years at the helm of THE F1 team, more championships than I can recall, and more innovation that you can imagine, all under his leadership....and with him about to step down in the next couple of years, it would be a great time.

And STILL no Sir M. Walker, or Sir G.Anderson.

Well I second these democratized changes. The English ruling classes have kept the privileges of titles for their dear selves for a long time. Now if you have anough prominent talent you can be bestowed a knighthood. I think that's fair.

These lords and viscounts have nothing to do with titles they possess, it's their ancestors who earned their titles. Now they are just waste pigs that nevertheless have the right to have a seat in the House of Lords. While the working class, that is really the belly of England's prosperity and creativity, barely has a say in England. England has come to change and that's great.

Does anyone still take these 'honours' seriously?

I second that, Mr Gazman. What Empire are we talking? The English lords still lay in their slumbers dreaming about the colonial Africa and enslaving aborigen tribes, and THAT'S WHY they still keep that award, MBA

Conversation I had last night:

"They've given honours to all the gold medal winners" "Well so they should, a gold medal is a great achievement" "They don't normally give them to ALL the winners, do they?" "I think they do, yes" "Well I don't remember there being this many in previous years" "..."

So Kelly Holmes wins two medals and gets a damehood, yet Rebecca Adlington wins two, and breaks a world record, and only gets an OBE. Sucks to be her.

When i get mine, (and it better be at least a CBE) I dont know if i'd be bothered going to down to London to pick it up. Do you think they would send it to me in the post?
