Any plans for a Community 3?

It might be wishful thinking on my behalf but are there any plans for a 3rd tribute compliation? I loved the process of anyone submitting their versions and having rounds and play-offs. And then to get the actual CD at the end of it all. I thought the Community album was (sorry IS) superb.

Maybe, it would also generate some much needed fresh input into this site. Just a thought.

Another suggestion could be to include a bonus CD of some of the brilliant tracks that didnt make the first two compilations.

Ive just got into digital recording and would love the chance to cover a New Order track and put it forward for assessing.

Im sure someone(s) gonna tell me a stack of reasons why its not possible/desired.

As an alternative idea, why not just get existing NOOLers to come up with NO/JD related covers, and go through the play off process, but not have a CD at the end, just a bit of fun, exposure for NOOLers bands, increase in sensible usage (rather than the abuse and spam that seems to be becoming the norm) and entertainment for others, to help Nick with the cost of running the site, there could be a small fee to participate.

What do you think?

Aye, I'd go for that. Maybe a commemorative CDR for a few folks, strictly burned to order.

Of course it means I'll have to bother to make some music again (recently using cubase is getting to be like work), and it means I'll have to follow through on that plan I hatched last time (Bossy Jem knows all about it, but it was more than 3 days ago so she's probably forgotten).

I know what you mean about cubase, I'm off to the land of logic as soon as I've saved enough pennies for a new mac, wish I'd never bought the PC! I know what your going to say, but not much music software runs on linux.

Instead of hankering for yet another of bastardised songs, why dont you just get into another band? There are thousands out there...

I liked the podcasts. for me that was the most interesting/successful part of community II ie hearing it all

what I think would be a good idea for any further musical ventures under a NOOL banner is a much more collaborative approach. whether that's adding live bass or vocals to some other nooler's instrumental or delivering an entire recording to someone else to mix! ie more ideas and more mutual support

I've had that intention on the backburner for a year and a half. I have some technology and some ideas but very little time. so very little happens... any takers?

I started something similar a few months ago, I uploaded the individual tracks from my cover of miracle cure to megaupload for people to do their own mixes of, there's been 14 downloads, but so far I've only heard one part done mix, subtle hint!

I've already done a full length cover/reinterpretation of Morning, Night And Day, but I'm guessing I'll need to edit it down for any future Community releases. I hope that Community 3 does happen one day...

Well at least my thread created some discussion. Id be willing to do a collaboration if anyones interested. Im a newbie to digital recording. Been using Krystal Audio Editior which is pretty cool (and free).

Personally I like Jed's thoughts. A bunch of mp3s from people here. Would shed a whole new light on some folks here, appreciating thier abilities with music that is. I mean, I can play piano (not well by any means... actually most would consider it just abrassive noise, but that's beside the point). I obiously wouldn't be adding anything to the concept, but would love to hear it.

My money is actually on a returning BA.....'cept he entered in Community 2.

I'd love to make one of mine available to hear what others make of it. I've had tracks produced by folks who REALLY knew what they were doing back in me early days (we're talking 92/93), but they still had me whinging in their ear and trying to get them to run on my schedule (once recorded and mixed 7 tunes in 20 studio hours....and one or two of them DON'T sound shite), so my not being involved at all, turning my work over to another creative mind, is quite interesting.

Trouble is....I've been through a windows re-install since most of my worthy tunes were recorded. Since the new machine was built last April/May, I've only installed things as and when they were needed, so I lack many of the VSTi's used a couple of years ago.....so track by track audio dumps of "pre-re-install" tunes is impossible.........who fancies bass and vox as audio and some nice midi parts then?

BTW.....I didn't mean I was falling out with Cubase, it's still like my 3rd arm/leg or 2nd cock....but years of weed does NOTHING to your brain that Trammadol can't oustrip in about 6 weeks....I've been munchin them like sweeties for nearly 5 years now. Also I lost my old default song and have not replaced it yet. THE hardest thing with the VSTi concept is that "next next next next next preset" trap.....I put in a part, then spend 2 mins finding a sound that makes it ROCK, then, looking for inspiration, start looking for the sound that will play the next part, in the hope that the sound will inspire the part. This worked great on a hardware synth with buttons and only 64 patches.....but get UltraFocus or something on the go and you can go mental listening to the same part over and over on a million patches (and always too lazy to just edit/write a sound, despite being a synth genius (I am, cope with it ;) ) ). SO I saved a def.all (or whatever this new-fangled PC version calls it, it'll always be def.all to the disciples of the little beige bastard), and in my def/all I had 8 tracks of Edirol Orchestra...piani, strings, flute, brass, basic kit,etc. It also had an instance of Absynth and one of Kontakt (preloaded with melotrin tapes), LM7 and a couple of analogue modelling synths. It meant I could put "musical" parts together using the basic, and highly harmonius on account of Edirol being Roland, noises from the Orch, and then fook about assigning them to weirder noises some other time, and I also had melotrons and a bit of house/acid/dr-who-sountrack-circa-1973 on tap. Must rebuild a new song really, it'll make life easier. I can't do Logic, and I (proudly) can't do Cakewalk (Sonar, whatever)....nope...Cubase all the way I fear. Wavelab and to an extent, Reactor are the only other things I'm happy using.

I think theres a new tune in you waiting to be unleashed. Upload some VSTs, then Cubase, plug in some instruments and plug away. Certainly a rewarding pastime.

I use Krystal myself. its simple for someone like me. But I know what you mean about VSTs. they can become abit of an obsession.
