avi to DVD software

Downloaded the HBO miniseres of John Adams, HD quality, but in avi format. Anyone know of good software (free) that will format the content to something playable in a DVD player, but also keeping in high quality?

(I have Cyberlink Makedisk. that can burn at high quality, but can't convert).

I still don't know what the fuck you're meant to do with .flacs

Play them?

VLC can play them, or you download, what I believe is called "flac frontend" which makes them into wav (good) or mp3 (silly).

EDIT:soundforge, wavelab and probably even audacity can load and convert them also.

As for dvd burning......

"dvdfodder movie.avi"

tricky this linux isn't it.

haven't a clue, but John Adams is fantastic.

Yer not kidding. It took forever to watch the first two disks (since Blockbuster only had one copy). Got tired of trying to wait for it, and figured it would be a great thing to watch around every 4th of July... can't wait to watch the remaining episodes I haven't watched...

I love VLC. It plays absolutely anything... unlike any other media player out there.

Except mplayer, which is god's media player,,,,,,ruddy thing plays unopened rars, youtube vids, and even VCD/DVD ISO's......and if it can play it, it can encode it.

How old is your DVD player? I thought most play avi's these days?!

Anyways, Vista comes with DVD Maker free.

Didn't try to burn the avi to disk, just figured it wouldn't work.... I'll have to check that out... much easier.

Sadly, yes, flightless south pole residents are involved. But VLC is nearly as good if you ARE stuck in Gates' Hell.
