To be on your own? Like A Rolling Stone!

I know there are a couple of Dylan fans about the place...Green Guy and Tabsy for example.

Dylan was drummed into me and my brother when we were wee, all me mam and dad used tp play was Dylan, Rod and Van the Man!

Bringing it on home was the first album I ever heard, and when I was 6 or 7 I got a record player fer christmas - them little box things :lol: Bringing it on home and Gasoline Alley by Rod were played till they were fucking ruined! What a musical upbringing eh? everyone else my age woulda been listening to Duran Duran & Adam & The Ants :lol:

What are yer favourite Dylan albums / songs......and does he sound like a hoover, or is it just the right kinda voice to sing the brilliant lyrics of his with meaning? YOU DECIDE;)

Love DESIRE with the BRILLIANT "HURRICANE".Many a fantastic track done by this guy and too many to name.He was ace in the 60s and continued throughout his career to be a MODERN DAY POET...yawn.He lost the plot at LIVE AID the AMERICAN one but everybody loses it ALL the time...NO?Like tea and beer i take him for granted like i do the ROLLING STONES.Still think he does a brilliant ACT .How many times has he been covered?But BOB does not need to be told how good he is!Like MUFFY he is MERELY HERE!:D.Alongside NEIL YOUNG i rate him up there with the A TEAMERS but don't upset MR T,the GOLDEN one not the TEABAG ONE. :lol:

i,ve never been a dylan fan, i,ve tried and i,ve gave him the benefit of the doubt,i,ve always enjoyed other peoples versions of his songs more than the originals

He's alreet. Don't have anything else but a 'Best of' which I rarely listen to. His *cough* 'distinctive' vocals can get a bit much sometimes. My little bruv got free tickets for the Newcastle gig of his last tour and he texted me to say he sounded like 'an owld gadgie from doon the club'. :lol:

I like a lot of Dylan stuff, but I am of the mind that at times his voice isn't the most appealing thing around.

Fave albums are Blood on the Tracks, Oh Mercy, and Bringing it all back home. Way too many good songs to list, but Series of Dreams, Johanna, She Belongs To Me, Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues, When I Paint My Masterpiece, etc.

Ah think ah need some sort of education on Bob Dylan, cos he simply passed me by when ah was younger..... more of a Ray Davies afficionado meself.... ;)

ShugZiVah has given me some pointers aboot him in the past...I'd better start investigatin' then... :D

Green Guy has named a few crackers....album wise I'd start with Bringing it on home.....Love Minus Zero, She Belongs To Me, Gates of Eden, then maybe Highway 61, Blood On The Tracks, Nashville Skyline, Blonde on Blonde, Hard Rain....so many classics, although on most albums there are always a few that annoy you!

Masters of War, Lonesome Death of Hattie Carrol, Times they are a changin, Like A Rolling Stone, Hurricane, Sooner or Later (one of us must know) Don't think twice (It's alright) It's alright ma (I'm only bleeding) Sara, Idiot Wind, Shelter from the storm, Tangled up in blue, Stuck inside of mobile, Knockin on heavens door.......fucking loads of classics...no-one has a back catalogue like him, best lyricist of all time, without a shadow of a doubt!

For anyone who wants to start anywhere with Dylan, get "The Essential Bob Dylan" double CD filled with classics :nod: But for some reason or another, there's no Idiot Wind :nonono: This is one of the best Dylan songs, about the bitter break up with his first wife....fucking fantastic scorching lyrics, great to listen to when you've just split up with someone....take it from me :lol:

As fer The Kinks matey....class, although it's the singles stuff I have somewhere, and not actual albums, also a big fan of The Small Faces around that period an all.....gotta say I prefer Rod & The Faces though;)
