OK... I fucking love this lot, and apologies to all I've been ranting on about them too over the last six months. Just seen a series of adverts on F4/Ch4. Is this the most hyped up band in recent history or what?

The new album is a mixed bag. about three excellent, amazing songs, a few decent songs and half that are emo crap....
I downloaded thier album,
then fell asleep halfway through listening to it,
but that might've been my nacrolepsy kicking in

I saw them on the NME Tour in Birmingham two weeks ago. They were the 'poorest' out of all four bands (Glasvegas, Friendly Fires and Florence & The Machine also played) but that wasn't to say they were 'bad' just not very exciting live. Bought the album last week and enjoying it. Especially that song that Florence sang on stage with them in Brum. The 'you've got blood on your hands' one.
That show was all about Friendly Fires though. Outstanding live performance. And to think I wrote them off after half a song when I stumbled upon them at the 'New Bands' tent at Oxegen last year.

Finally got the album on monday and its been on heavy rotation ever since!

I'd never heard of 'White Lies' until someone very kindly gave me their album as a present recently.I've been playing it in the car every day since,and enjoying it..Half a dozen great tracks on there.
Did a bit of research on these cats(Youtube)Frightfully posh boys with some ace tunage in their locker,was the verdict...Drummer is fantastic!

Emo? Are you sure you've got the right band? 'Moody indie for posh students' would be a fair criticism but I don't see where you're getting the 'emo' comparisons from. Is 'emo' not all those 13 year olds who hang about Central Station on Saturday afternoons with band t-shirts on and white make up trying to hide their spotty faces?

What;s this 11 minute thing on youtube? Is this part of the promo hype? a few of the vids mixed in with spoken lyrics from the songs? I do like that i have to admit
I like what I've heard so far. So much so that I have convinced my friend to check them out with me at the Toronto show. I'm looking forward to it...something new.

I dunno man. I'm liking this album more and more as the days go by. Head and shoulders above that gig I saw. Quite 'epic' in parts. The last two tracks let it down a bit though.
Going back to Friendly Fires, for some reason they've seen fit to completely re-record and re-arrange 'Skeleton Boy' off the new album as the new single and it aint a patch on the album version. Not a remix, an actual re-recording of everything from the vocals down.

Having googled it for a while earlier.. its not specifically to do with lyrics.. its musical style. Basically pop punk with high pitched brattish youthful vocals, often in an American accent. And fashion. Chuck in melancholic lyrics and you are there.

Basically.. you wont find any references to White Lies as being Emo, cos they aren't. Period.
Death disco is the bracket you are looking for.
