Sigur Ros ?

Never really cared or thought about them before. Having heard a few of the songs I am very impressed. So - does anyone else like them?, and if so what are the albums to get and the ones to avoid? Thanks

IMO () is the best one to go for.

It's a little confusing as there is actually no album title and no track names.

ágætis byrjun is another album to look out for.

Have seen them support radiohead and they are very good.

They get quite a lot of attention in the music magazines dealing with foreign music over here, and they have quite a fanbase (among people listening to foreign music).

But I never have actually heard their music, neither have I been interested.

deffo get Untitled or () it was me first SR album when i was 13, been in love with them since,

give them a twirl on youtube and/or spotify first though! not everyones cup of tea.

plus there's a time, place and mood for SR bear it in mind, they go well with a BBQ and a spliff

They have done some more indie pop-ish structure type songs on their last album. Here is a nice video for a single plus it has naked 18 year olds playing at the beach in it. Cool. Too cool for youtube thou. Sigur Ros Gobbledigook video

and if you like neither, then listen to u2 and be lame.

My fave album is Heima

I've never actually listened to them, but Roy likes them so they must be alright.

Really loving the songs that I have heard so far. Decided to order the albums () and Takk. I think they do have a slight Cocteau Twins, Radiohead,Arcade Fire and Bjork sound/influence - which can't be a bad thing!:)

sigur ros are fantastic, especially live. they were great first time they toured the uk supporting radiohead as someone said further up the thread & have been consistently good ever since, right up to this latest tour which was amazing, a whole different slant on them without the string section (amiina) touring with them.

takk is prolly the most accesible, but the first one released in this country (not their debut proper, von) would be my recommendation - aegetis byrjean (or however you spell it) simply beautiful music to lose yourself in

not getting the cocteaus thing - that because they don't sing in english? or cos they use strings?

not just haunting music but they're clever too - aegetis features a song with a palandromic string section & one song which uses the melody of another on the album played at quarter speed

Kind of get the Cocteaus thing but they are more of a pop band to me - shorter songs, more traditional arrangements, albeit with Liz Fraser's incredible voice and some outstanding instrumentation... The Ros are I suppose a more experimental/looser extension of that, although I like Cocteaus primarily for Liz's voice and Sigur Ros for the music, not overly keen on Jonsi as a vocalist... Listen to Svefn-G-Englar from Agaetis Bryjun... Genius

To make my point more clearly: the Cocteau Twins used to make beguiling music, became junkies, and used to talk about the massive sexual/physical abuse they'd received as children while Robin would throw up on himself in interviews. Even Slowdive had Rachel Goswell, who was a total babe.

I've only seen them once: 'Festival of Drifting', Colchester Arts Centre, sometime in 2000. I spent their entire set chatting to Robin Guthrie who told me (with disarming frankness) all about his fractious relationship with Liz Frazer. At one point he stopped and asked if I wanted to watch the band play. I looked at the stage, and the frontman was 'playing' his guitar with a violin bow. I looked at Guthrie as if to say: "I'd rather eat a raw cod sandwich".

Don't mind a bit of them from time to time. The video to It's You hits the mark when yer pissed around 2am on Saturday night/ Sunday morn.
