Your topic title, is more of a mission statement than a description of this specific matter.
Their general polices are not only bonkers, they are utterly hypocritical. Eg....they are vehemently opposed to ANY animal related research or medical treatment, no matter WHAT, stating many times that if the choice is, death or animal derrived treatment, the person should die......but one of their VP's is a diabetic who takes canine insulin.
I urge anyone who thinks these guys are a lovely bunch of people who take care of stray kittehs to seek out and view the PETA episode of the excellent "Penn and Teller's Bullshit".
In the UK you have people like the RSPCA, the Canine defense league, Cat protection league (or society or whatever it is), who look after animals. Then you have crazy wrongwits like the ALF (Animal Liberation Front) [1], who do the breakins and fire bombings. The USA, seems to have rather efficiently bunged all of the above into one single body.
[1] Their finest hour (maybe not ALF, but SOME bunch of animal crazies), was surely the mass break-out of several thousand mink from a mink farm. The mink, newly freed, took up residence on a small island in a nearby lake (possibly taken there by the loons, I can't remember)....and lived a happy life feasting on the stocked trout which had cost someone a lot of money. When they'd eaten all the trout, they ate the rudd, and then the roach, then the perch, the grayling, the eels and finally the pike, when the fish were gone, the tucked into the now booming amphibious residents, and every other thing they could get they little claws into. This left the lake as dead as if someone had poured arsenic into it, a liquid desert. All the mink then starved to death. Truly they are friends to all our furry, feathered and scaley friends.
I don't know, I think they make an excellent point-- I wouldn't want to hook a cute, innocent sea kitten, after all.

PETA has the right to be activists and whatnot...but good job to Neil and Chris for refusing to change the band's name.

PETA would rather that anglers killed fish rather than return them safely to the water to live out their days. It's madness I tell you. How can killing a fish be good for it?
