Alan McGee is going off on them, saying he wished he never signed them and that they're "unlistenable shite".

My take - maybe ho-hum songwriters, but they make up for it with sheer sonic amazement. They know how to create amazing SOUNDS. Who cares if it's gimmicky - it works.

The Weatherall mix of 'Soon' is one of my all-time faves.

Kevin Shields was quoted on Channel 4 teletext last week as saying the next MBV lp will be "folk influenced". whatever that means. i got a japanese reissue (bootleg) of "soon" by more goddam music.

i have a fantasy of liam gallagher going up to ex-creation boss and going "mr mcgee, don't make me angry, you won't like me when i'm angry" in a david banner/hulk stylee.

love 'em but just don't see the point of turning everything up so fucking loud at live performances so I missed them the last (and probably only) time they came around. Can someone explain this to me? Dinosaur JR, Mogwai and MBV, I'm looking at you.

Their decibel level might be tolerable at a decent venue but just not for every gymnasium they play.

I dunno; I think they're pretty good songwriters. If you go back to the Strawberry Wine and Ecstasy records you'll find some really first-class jangle pop; e.g., Never Say Goodbye, You're Safe in Your Sleep (From This Girl).

I voted genius because Kevin Shields created those amazing sounds, and they are amazing. They're also so fully realized that he owns them completely; you technically can copy his sound, but everyone will know you're trying to copy it. :guitar:

Some of the best pure production I have ever heard. A total aural assault.I heard stories where audiences would be issued ear plugs because the sheer volume and feedback.

"Loveless" is the one album where I listened to it and it made my stomach queasy-wow.

those aren't stories at the recent reunion tour earplugs were avilable to those who wanted them - i declined at the roadhouse.
