Was getting ready to go Golf (for the 4th time this week) when it started pissing down, so Baldrick comes up with the idea of going to Milton Keynes fer a wee look around, okey cokey I thought :nod: Got over there - and there were record stalls everywhere :rolling: Mix them with the HMV, Virgin & Our Price stores and it made fer an expensive fucking day out :lol:

I think myself and Baldrick spent over 50 spondoolicks each :nonono: Baldrick continued in his quest of catching up with my JD / NO collection, he picked up "Unknown Pleasures & Still" on vinyl, as well as "Get The Message" on single - he then bought....Pet Shop Boys "Disco" Pink Floyd "Dark Side" Doves "Last Broadcast" and one of Badly Hair Day Boy's albums - but the name of it escapes me :lol:

I managed to pick up a few things I already have - or in different formats

Thieves Like Us 12" fer a quid Simon & Garfy "Bridge over troubled water" LP fer a quid ELO's Greatest Hits LP fer a quid Shamen "En-Tact" LP (including Johan Scott in credits) a quid Sex Pistols "Flogging a dead horse" LP fer 4 quid EATB Seven Seas & Sliver on 7" & The Primitives "Crash" 7" all a quid each

Then it was onto The Record Stores - fer some CD's

Manics "Gold against the soul" 6 quid Billy Bragg "England Half English" 6 quid Rod Stewart "Reason to believe" 6 quid The Doves "Lost Souls" 6 quid

Then it was a Dylan fest, triple CD Bootleg series 1961-1991 & Triple Biograph CD's both fer 22 quid :clap: Fuckin Bargain of the century!! The essential Bob Dylan Double CD fer a 10 spot Blood on the tracks fer 6 quid & finally Bringing it all back home fer a sky diver......expensive day out, but worth every penny:D

Billy Bragg has always been a favourite as you already know! I wish I had more cash with me, cos I still havnae got Back To Basics, which includes one of my fave BB songs Milkman Of Human Kindness....never mind, I'll get it next time :nod:

As fer Rod - that CD is class.....Gasoline Alley, Only a Hobo, Mamma you been on my mind, Country Comfort, Maggie May......Between 69-75 Rod was fanfookintastic! espescially his stuff with The Faces, Jeff Beck and Python Lee Jackson :nod: ELO was only bought because it has another of me all time faves Telephone Line. Bridge Over Troubled Water is brilliant. Finally found Lost Souls - which wonderbra.....sorry, Wonderboy keeps mentioning :evil4: Dylan is just a fuckin genius - no need to explain him to anyone;)

I only have The Faces stuff on either vinyl or cassette :cry: I really wanted to buy "A Nod's As Good As A Wink (to a blind Horse)" "The Best of The Faces" and "Oooh La La" but as mentioned above, I just didnae have the funds!

Dunno why Jeffsy baby - fookin loved their stuff - spent a couple of years at college listening to The Shamen....amphetemines mixed with coca cola on yer lunch breaks??? They were the days :lol: Make It Mine is a great track :nod: Loved the singles they done espescially......Progen, LSI, Ebeneezer.....great time in my life!

That song, "Man In The Iron Mask" as well as "Milkman" and a few others - "Tank Park Salute" / "Trust" / "Dolphins" (1991) "Must I Paint You A Picture" / "Valentine's Day Is Over" (1988) and "The Home Front" (from 1986's "Taxman") are simply so moving they bring tears to my eyes. :nod:

:lol: I've got quite a few of his albums now - still 3 or 4 to get, have to say I thought he was fuckin terrible the first few times I'd heard him, but thanks to my mate Mark's perseverence, I finally started to like im. Never been to see him live - I check his website every now and then - but I think I've missed most of his gigs this year, before he goes to America......I agree with Huberto & Blue Boy - the man is a genius, reminds me a lot of the Bobcat - taking political songs and making them heard - as well as blending in great love / hate tracks! Hopefully the next time he's dahn lahndan - a few of us can meet up fer a swally :nod:

Agreed BB is a top geezer.

Do you know how he got his big break in music ???

In the early eighties he was listening to Peely one night when the scouse one mentioned he was rather hungry, BB then poopped round to the bbc studio's with a pizza for Peely , who then offered BB a session and he has never looked back since

I do not agree with his politics but I think he is great, terrific, very simple, straight to the point songs and enjoyed very much his outing of Manic Street Preachers as own-privee-you-can't-crap-here-unless-you-belong-to-the band-petit-bourgeoises.

There is a terrific cover of "She's put a spell on me" (or something like that :scratch: ) by a Spanish band called La Granja. Improves on the original, trust me. I´ll try to do an MP3 next time I am with one of my computer literate friends.

With Billy though, doesn't anyone else agree that of all the people who ended up doing two albums worth of "lost" Woody Guthrie songs - HE was the perfect candidate? There couldn't have been a more appropriate artist to do the old stalwart's songs justice really. Mr. Guthrie was obviously the BB of his day then, no doubting that! Think about it - the parallels are frankly uncanny..... :nod:

Woody Guthrie is a legend an all :nod: I was playing Dylan's Bootleg series last night, and reading the book that accompanied it, several people always mention Guthrie as a great source of information.....Springsteen, Neil Young & Clapton for starters! I thought it was quite apt that Guthries sister got in touch with Bragg (and Wilco) to do it.....I've only heard the first Mermaid Avenue....but that was class, I'll get the second one soon :nod:
