A good obit.
Invented the electric guitar and multi-track recording.
A who's who of guitar legends played and still play his signature Les Paul guitar-known for its fat sound.
The music we love would be much poorer without Les Paul.

When he broke his arm, he had it set in the correct position for playing guitar :D Farewell.
One thing that always amuses me, the same people who yap and whine about electronic instruments today, and worship the electric guitar.....are the offspring of the morons who called Les all the fuckers of the day for inventing his evil and unnatural instrument.

people don't respect synth's as much as guitars.
The sound of a Les Paul is what made me fall in love with rock and roll (Ace Frehley's, to be exact). RIP indeed.

This generation's luddites attack synths etc and laud the guitar, in Mr Paul's day, he was viciously derided by those who championed the accoustic guitar, the point being, fuckwitts are fuckwitts regardless of the era.
The man was pure genius, his first solid body guitar was made out of a bit of rail road!, it was the strongest streight object he could find!
His early multi track recordings with mary ford are amazing, especially when you consider the equipment they had to work with.

on a slightly different note, Have to agree with Cambo, anyone who derides any technological advance needs a slap, work on the positives, except the limitations and use it as a tool.

Every year I was amazed that Les Paul was still among us. I listen to his Columbia albums all the time; in fact "16 Most Requested Songs" CD is my nighttime music to fall asleep for a few years already.
His groundbreaking sound of the early 50s (for Capital) is not my cup of tea (too jazzy!!).

P.S. Chuck Berry also still performs in his club every Wednesday.
