Reading some of the comments on the Big Brother thread about Richard Hammond, co-incidentally the free Solihull Observer arrived today with the front page headline 'Comic's sick blast sparks ex-pupils' outrage'.

To quote a few paragraphs:

"TV presenter Richard Hammond, one-time Solihull School student, was the subject of a bizarre attach from fellow ex-Solihull pupil and comedian Stewart Lee"."...........was the subject of a surprising and cruel slur from Lee, who said during a routine at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, that he wished his former schoolmate had been decapitated in the high-speed crash...........""Controversial comic Stewart Lee was two years ahead of the presenter when they shared their time in school in the 1980's................it was while they were pupils that the animosity is believed to have begun between the pair.""In Lee's sketch............he said he wished Hammond had died in the crash, before going on to describe graphically how he would have liked to see him decapitated in front of his wife. He said that his rant was a joke, before adding that it was also what he believed""As the Observer went to press, neither press agents for Lee or Hammond were prepared to comment.........."" (headmaster) said he did not want to make any comment and did not wish to involve the school in any of the unsavoury remarks"

I really like Stewart Lee as a comedian, but wishing anyone dead ('joking' or not) is completely unacceptable.
