I wish these people would swear off medicaid, social security, and stop expecting the police and the fire department to protect them. While we're at it, let's disband the military and the VA Hospitals. God damn the socialist programs.

This particular brit-o-paddy isn't even gonna watch it. I can imagine it'll make me think even worse of yous as a nation.

How the hell can looking after the weak be unamerican. Especially since the entire nation was founded on.....cash handouts....from, of all people, those evil French.

These guys would probably prefer it if there were no sick or poor, just label them as "ecconomically or systemically impure", and off to the camps with them.

I was laughing all the way through the piece, but at the same time, couldn't help but feel that these whack-a-loons are serious about their undertone of violence.

We did have a teabagger protest here in Portland. I rode by it without realizing that a townhall meeting on healthcare reform had been scheduled. There were several hundred people lined up on one side of the street, supporting health care reform. Across the street, there were about 10 teabaggers against healthcare reform. I took photos with my Blackberry to document the stark contrast in numbers. The next day, the TV station covering the event had written a news story for their website that made it seem as if people were evenly split about health care reform. They even had a photo of the pro-health care supporters from the side, so you couldn't read their signs-- all you could see was people protesting at a townhall.

Made me wonder how many other town halls on health care have been similarly distorted by the media for the sake of generating news controversy.

Show some videos of them then. What are these threatening hate filled far left groups? Peta? Peta is pretty extreme but they are a fringe group... Gay rights parade? Far Left love to break into Congress and Senate meetings completely disrupting the course of business (and these are not townhall meetings were people are SUPPOSE to interact), they threatened Bush on many occasions calling for his head (not happy with a simple impeachment), have had violent clashes with others with opposing opinions....

again, this is on BOTH sides of exetremists. Personally, I think protests are overrated. They numb people of important issues; entrench those that do care into either camp, impeding progress of a middle-ground; fuel extremists believing that they have more people behind them then they really do.

There are valid reasons for protest, but we overuse it over here in our country, to the point of nauseum. In the end it really fits our philosophy as a country "I did something by sitting on my ass not doing a damn thing."

If people really care about an issue, then they need to actually DO something about it, not just sit on thier fat asses, holding a picket sign while yelling at bystanders, with a 42 ounce cup of diet Pepsi in one hand and a half eaten Whopper in the other.

while I'd have to say I've not heard of too many bomb attacks on Dr's who refuse to do abortions, as far as the realities of protesting go, I'd have to agree with GI Joe.

Well, I'm going to have to call BS on much of it.

Fact:Protesters on the left did interrupt Congress, on more than one occasion. These interruptions were always extremely brief, and resulted in the arrest of the protesters involved. In contrast, the teabaggers have not only interrupted town-halls, they have prevented any other viewpoints from being expressed. Their goal has not been "interaction," but a complete take-over of the meeting and shut-down of any discussion of the issue. Oh, and no arrests.

Verdict: Half-true.

2) Claim: "they threatened Bush on many occasions calling for his head (not happy with a simple impeachment)"

Fact: To my knowledge, this has never happened. Of course, it's possible that I simply missed the news, but absent any *credible* media evidence (i.e., some whack-a-loon's blog on all things wingnut is not "credible media evidence"), I'm going to have to put this in the same category as other right-wing fabrications, such as "government death panels" and "pulling the plug on grandma."

Verdict: Where's the evidence?

Fact: Watching TV is sitting on your fat ass not doing a damn thing. Protesting is getting off your fat ass and doing something. Putting in regular work to make something you believe in happen is doing even more.

There is a HUGE difference between disrupting Congress and holding a "filabuster" at a town hall meeting. Congress is a place where the legislators discuss business and the people sit and listen. Townhalls are for people to get information and to voice thier opinion to the politician. So while a "filabuster" is not the professional way of conducting themselves, it IS the place to do it... not formal meetings of Congress. Time and place.

Protests should be left for the large issues of the day, however in the US we protest over everything, it drowns out the importance of the larger issues... many of the same people are very contradictory about issues as well - people scream we need to save people from dictators, but if we were to do something about it (militarily) then those same people would protest against our involvement in that same place.

Again, both sides have thier wackos... I don't associate with the far-right-wingers as much as you don't associate with the far-left-wingers... but they are still in our boat, if only there was a way to toss them out to sea?

But the Democrats and supporters don't claim to support these extremists. Nobody takes them very seriously, it's like Halloween for them, nobody is threatened much by them any more than the Goth kids, or drag queens. Do you feel threatened? People who protest Abortion clinics have done much more than any of these.

The Republican media and Fox News are acting like these current protests are by great Americans, and the Republicans have been kissing up to this middle to lower class white hard core christians for the last couple decades. When you throw religion and hate and guns all mixed together, it's a bad mix historically.

I suppose there could be a mentally ill "Travis Bickle" type on either extreme. Our mainstream society tends to say that the gays, mohawks and vegans are crazy and unbalanced... but if some other unbalanced guy has a USA flag and a Bible they say he is a great moral american at heart, gets a lot more slack.
